Title: Christmas time (show off your stuff!)
Post by: mkviken on 15 December 2011, 16:18

My milltek cat back finally came today!

looks really well made and looks very good quality. only issue is a bit of spatter which means i can't get the left tail pipe on. i will rub it off with a file when i come to fit it.

i weighed it in at 13.1kg which is less than i was expecting. I will weigh the OEM exhaust when i take it off to see what the difference is.

I thought it was going to be 2.5" or 2.75" pipe but its 3" with an adapter piece. a 3" cat down pipe may be on the cards next year

other items in my stocking are a golf gti 76-11 t-shirt and gti mug from the dealers and the whiteline anti lift kit i fitted a few weeks back.

so lets see your xmas bling everyone

3 Cigarette card displays of VW's. Bought last week as I just love the old "classic" stuff. GTI's, Campervans and Beetles.

Very nice mate, put some pics up when they are on. Is it res or non-res?

Jim

Post by: mkviken on 15 December 2011, 18:50
its a non-res.

the resonated has an additional silencer on the mid pipe. i drove one at the dealership (VWR branded) and it was so quiet it seemed no different so went non-res

will fit it at the weekend if we get a dry day!

as it happened i had it on the day i picked the car up and on the way to the garage i realised i had it on and would look a proper tool so swiftly removed it! would have looked a bit sad picking my new car up with all the regalia on!

what suspension is it you fitted?

got any side on shots?
Title: Re: Christmas time (show off your stuff!)
Post by: KrazyZ on 18 December 2011, 14:39
suspension is FK Silverline X it is set at 4 threads left up front and 8 in the back. Full stiff in the front and 1/2 turn from full in the rear.  The ride is firm but not as bad as I though it would be.

Look good. Maybe a little too low at the rear for me though.

Are they decent quality? Did you fit them yourself?
Title: Re: Christmas time (show off your stuff!)
Post by: Jimmymature on 18 December 2011, 17:48
Each to their own I suppose but it doesn't look right to me, it looks far too low. It looks slammed instead of sporty.

front looks good but back is too low IMO. i like the car to be wedged or have point back end higher than the front.

The on/off button not being the right way up really annoys me. Praise the Lord for the gift of a MFSW.

I'm hopefully doing the same job today, albeit with a lowly RCD 510, providing the parcel man turns up.

Lol sorry, an adult gets to around 7 inches including the tail, mine loves the kids and sits in his tank watching our cats. No big requirements just need room temp so around 72-82f, feed with a paste you mix up from a jar called GCD ( crested gecko diet ). 2-3 times a week feed crickets. Tank wise look up a tank by exo terra ideally the 45x45x60 is perfect for them. A good website is rf**k loads of info on there :)

Do you get a replacement under warranty?

I reckon you ought to have a good claim. I mean surely it could be considered that it is "unfit for purpose" as a pet if it only lasts 6 months.

Very nice.... I have a lazy one having seen those exhaust tips.

Title: Re: Christmas time (show off your stuff!)
Post by: mkviken on 20 December 2011, 16:53
Thanks

yeah these are 100mm 'jet' tail pipes. i was going to get the GT100 but they look a bit boy racer to me. the one i went for are more in keeping with the car IMO.

you have a lot of adjustment in or out but i have mine pushed quite far in to the bumper so they're slightly more hidden. I've seen some people have them stick out more.

fit and quality of the milltek is very very good. all went together excellent, all hangers lined up perfect and there is a lot of adjustment on the slip joints if required. this is the best quality exhaust I've fitted i would say, including JCW ones for my mini cooper s which was also very good but look more 'tweaking' to line up.

as its stainless i siliconed all the slip joints to prevent leakage - all except for the OEM-to-milltek front connector so its easier to remove when the day comes. i applied a little silicon bead to the outside of that joint though just to help a little but non to the actual pipe itself but it should come off hopefully!

took it to the petrol station for a drink of v-power (the car not me) and to line david cameron's pockets a bit and the car sounds amazing.

i test drove a resonated version and it was far to quiet (i think it was quieter than OEM but the non-res is perfect IMO). below 3k rpm there is just a very subtle difference, just a little more aggressive and a slight burble but not louder - but above 4k rpm it really starts to come on song. a couple of nice little farts on overrun too. DSG would sound amazing on the up changes.

The sound is excellent but still in no way intrusive. at a steady 70mph its no louder than OEM and isn't boomy at all. I'm amazed to be honest.

i know £538 is a bit steep for a bit more noise, bit better looks and maybe a few bhp and throttle response but after just 10 miles of driving it i can say i would definitely recommend this exhaust.

Very nice JonnyG. Were they expensive? I've not looked at wheels on ebay or forums for quite a while now to keep me away from temptation! I've been whiling my time on Angry Birds on my son's iPhone instead. I've decided I need an iPhone in my life to keep me away from cars and forums once and for all!!

But when I did spend far too much time browsing there weren't many genuine Tallawosits that come up for sale so you've done well to get a set.

Those are reps though, so be careful.  There's plenty of brand new reps on E-bay for around £400 a set.

I've waited nearly a year on E-bay for a set of genuine VW OEM wheels & tyres, and had three seperate email search alerts setup on Ebay !

Then finally one appeared close to me
