Title: digifant-astic or digi-pants?
Post by: GTIrl on 11 May 2005, 00:34
which is the engine that runs the best on a Mk 2 8v? I have a 91 gti, which has given me alot of headaches since i got it last year. I definitely made a bad decision when i bought it (class d write off i later found out) but it still makes me grin when i drive it. But which is the engine you lot all want? (apart from 16v ofcourse) d'oh...

kjet was desigined with performace/responsivness in mind
digi was designed with efficiency in mind

kjet is a lot more simple than digi

but you can chip a digi, i have drove a kjet and digi 8v and being honest apart from the kjet being harder to start (fault woth car) and a bit eager to rev i didnt notice that much difference, however kjet is as fickle as digi if not setup right, both can be an arse!

dunno, only had a digifant, my mates got a k-jet which i've only driven once or twice and can't tell much difference. digifants look better!!!!

ive got a chipped cam'd etc digi and its a great car to drive, i have driven the k-jet and the respone issue people find with digi i have resolved by altering the spring tension etc in the afm..

I got a digi as i wanted a l8 mk2 and this came up for sensible money, and yeh the engines do look better!

what is the response issue you are talking about (please excuse me, i am a girl..)

today i noticed that my engine is over heating a little and the fan is coming on just when it is at idle. could that be timing? and are digifants really pershnickety about everything being just exactly right, or what?

eh? the fan will come on at idle more so than when you're moving as there is no air getting blown onto your radiator from hoofing it down the road.

by response he means something called digi-lag which is a short hesitation when you put your foot down. i've never really noticed it myself and i've heard of people doing the mod he did to overcome it but never done mine and not sure whats involved.

i wouldn't have thought a digi will be more fussy about being right. at the end of the day you want a decent engine so if its set up right it'll be cool!!

sorry that sounded a bit rude, i meant its no bad thing that your fan comes on, i'd worry if it didn't!!!

Could someone please explain the above re. the digifant issue

if you experience digi-lag then what i think you can do is prise off the cover on your air flow meter (black plastic cover just after your airbox) and in there is a collection of things. if you move certain things it advances something or other and overcomes the digi-lag. you then have to seal the cover back on. like i said, i've not done this so anyone who has (kingsley) could you elaborate on this. pics would be helpfull too.

no, thats ok, silly question i guess. just glad its normal. changed the fuel filter today and sadly no mice in it. i was hoping it might explain why the running is just not quiiiiiite right. but it seems pretty much the same.

Yes pics of other digifants would be great.. and explainationals about the afm adjustment (air flow meter?) sorry, a bit new to this.

yeah.. not fair. ive half a mind to send in a pic of my covered in mud/oil/coolant chrystals and the odd bit of rust and alot of electrical tape digifant, but that would just make me look like even more foolish! :undecided:

no, its actaullly pretty standard, and the only 'mods' were put on before i got it. k&n air filter and big silly exhaust thats doing my nut in. I put a pic in my gallery but i dont think its up yet. O and i havent got nice bbs alloys. only p-slots but they are better than bricks

Title: Re: digifant-astic or digi-pants?
Post by: GTIrl on 12 May 2005, 14:30
ive seen a lowered one around and it does look meaner. but i dont think thats going to happen to my car. need to get it going right first!!

do not fiddle with your afm if you dont know what your doing cos you can really screw it and the running of your car up! ands they are expensive to replace!

i however just fiddled willy nilly and mine turned out ok, i turned the sping tension back one notch so it isnt so stiff but it took weeks and weeks to get right........

i think im gonna get it timed right first. Dont really notice a lag to be honest, maybe only in first where its pretty jumpy unless im really delicate on the accelerator.

So...in general digifantastic then?

k-jet was before the digi wernit?

It does look kinda nice in those pics of what a digi can look like.. o the shame...!!

yeah k jet came first and was a manual fuel injection system digi came later

kjet is fitted to early 8v's all 16v's and digi is fitted to 8v's and g60 etc

think the limited is digi to

cos you can get digi 1 and digi 2 there are 2 different versions one for n/a cars and one for forced induction cars
