Title: few maintenance issues, mk3 golf 1.4

Hey guys, just went out and bought myself my first car A mk3 golf 1.4 match.

its an mot failure. It needs new brake lines in certain areas
new rear offside shock
front brake rebalanced

Anyone any idea how much this would cost, and the best places to look?

There is also a loud whining noise wen i start the car, i have been told its just an over zelous starter motor. Is this anything to worry about ?

Also theres a noticable whining noise wen im in low gears, almost as if im reversing at a high speed, if also been told its not much to worry about, but the noise does my head in, any idea what it could be and how to fix?

The whining noise from the gearbox whilst driving usualy means its knackered, either from high mileage or most commonly been ragged. :sad:
