would be better if it had a turbo  :sad: :embarassed: but at 17 i could only afford to insure the 1.8n/a  
hopefully in a year or two when insurance isnt so much of a rip off i will be getting something like a mk2 ( light ect.)  and putting a 1.8t out of a mk4 in it or maybe something else and hopefully try get 200+bhp out of it and get it real light, but that will no doubt be a good few years :(

yeah i know what you mean. im 19 mate and im paying £970 o a mk2 like. its stupid. the most ive payed was for my first car which was £2780.

the insyrance these days are terrible dunno how poeple afford it tbh :/

BMW 325, never drove it scrapped it and earned £50 out of it.
MK3 1.4 5 door Golf, never drove it (legally) and that turned out to be not very straight so got scrapped.  :grin:
MK3 1.6, first real car, still got it, started out with the engine in bits and a snapped belt, now in bits again but this time getting a respray.  :grin:
Nissan Micra 1.3, sisters got it then selling it after Chrimbo
Fiat Cinquecento Sporting Abarth, current hack till next year.

Plus plenty of other sales cars but they don't really count I guess.

For driving pleasure, the Scooby wins by a mile. So precise it is hard to describe. On (only) 205 tyres the grip was phenominal. I did a few exhaust mods to get it to about 240 bhp but it was no chav car. The driving experience was dominated by the precision, grip and lovely loping noise the engine made. A proper money pit on the 30k miles a year I was doing though, so it had to go.

Second best for driving pleasure were the Cortina 1600 GT, Cavalier SRi (Mk.2 130), Mk1 1600 Golf (that was a quick car - probably as quick as my current Mk.3 GTi 8V), and the current GTi. The 525d was pokey and very quick but too heavy to be engaging like the others.

Best motorway wafter was the Omega MV6. Very quick but probably needed £800 spent on uprated suspension to make it handle. A very nice place to be on a 200 mile journey though and better than the 525d by a long way for that.

Top 3 for the pleasure I get (got).

Apparently I jumped out the car furious, then collapsed in the road, luckily there was an ambulance filling up in a garage about 400m away!!!

This has got to be the well over 20 times since I joined this forum, why dont we have it as  sticky?

1997 P Astra 1.6 auto, sold on ebay
1996 N Golf 1.8 Cabriolet, still own
1991 j golf 1.8 16v GTi, sold recently

For onging why not make it as a sticky, as bet this type of thread is posted at least twice more this year. Just an idea.

- 325 BMW bought for £50 with loads of work needing doing, then just scrapped it for £150 as boss didn't like it in the yard.

- 1.4 Golf MK3 CL POS that I wanted to do up, bought loads of parts for then when stripping it down found the back of the car totally bent and bodged and just got rid.

- 1.6 MK3 CL - Bought off here without seeing it for £200 with a snapped belt. Flogged all the lowering kit, lights etc I didn't want for £247 quid and parts to repair it cost just under £100 so cost £50 for a fully working car. Still have it, want a VR6 in it after a respray.

- 1.8 Auto CL - I bought of mum and dad. Broke that for parts then scrapped, who would want to buy a MK3 1.8 AUTO these days for sensible money?

- Golf MK3 8v GTI bought off here for £100. Broke that in the end which was a shame as although it had seemingly been looked after, insurance was just too ridiculous after being quoted cheap online but different story when ringing them. The front NS strut was seriously corroded though. Shame but donated some nice parts to mine.

- Nissan Micra - Bought for £150 sold after 8 months of abuse for £852

- Skoda Fabia - Bought for £150 while walking home from work from a neighbor 8 doors down. Wanted to take the MK3 off road and MOT and tax was due. Bought the Skoda, spent £12 on some brake pads (thought that was quite steep too since crap pads for a Micra are only £7 :tongue:) and then used it for the 6 month MOT and tax, generally got abused beyond belief and after every single panel was dented and the windscreen smashed (I rammed into a trolley some chavs had put in the lane to my house at about 50MPH) scrapped it for £155 quid in Trashford. Free motoring, why not?

- Then a 16v MK3 GTI that was a rotten pair. Bought cheap with intentions of using the engine, wish I had now but changed my mind and wanted a VR6.

- MK4 SDI which I bought off mum and dad for the £500 they paid for it. sh!te loads of new parts chucked on and now just a daily hack.

- Passat 130 TDI Auto which is absolutely lovely. Highline so leather, climate. Now half owned by mum and dad after selling their A4. Still use it so not really gone but although I love it, I didn't use it as much as mum did half the time. So makes sense to just share it and have the SDI daily.

I WILL have something half fun this year, been waiting so long now. Either VR6 the MK3 and either mop the paint or wrap it or just turn it into a huge project and something like a Clio cup takes my fancy. Although I desperately need some form of big work vehicle and as much as I want fun I need to prioritize.

Also had several other cars I've bought and sold but that's work really not actually personal.
