Title: bad sound maybe wheel bearing

just got a mk4 golf turbo its ok when you power on but when you let of throtle it makes a bad grinding sound .sounds to be on the near side

jack up one wheel at a time spin it to  see if you can hear any grinding noise and check for play in the wheel  shake wheel side to side and top to bottom

thanks for the help i jacked it up on the near side f/wheel it was that looked like the wheel was comming off it was the wheel bearing and it nakerd the hub
scord it in side
it was strange no sound when power on only when you let off the throttle
