Title: Gttdi flywheel
Post by: barachello on 11 December 2011, 21:53
The flywheel on my 99 gt tdi AHF engine has started making a clattering noise when the car is started. Apart from that it drives fine and no other problems.

I have been told that it is cheaper and better to replace it with a g60 flywheel.

Can anyone confirm this and any other advice appreciated

Thanks

if the flywheel is a duelmass DONT relace it with a solid flywheel, it sounds like a good money saving idea and will all be well before you snap your crank, we have had to fix 3 cars that this has happened to. the manufacturers spend millions on these designs id stick to them unless your car is highly modified.

You can get a solid replacment and they are fine to use however on a diesel your better to run a DMF

IMO DMF  is not required on petrol,  but when you look at the rpm a high boost diesel makes it's power they really do need to be dual mass or much heavyer
