Title: MK5 GTI Battery Covers
Post by: Poached on 11 December 2011, 19:11
Hi

I took my battery and its tray out today to get to the DSG Oil filter. Since I have put everything back together the Positive cable connected to the battery terminal seems to be pressing against the front plastic cover causing it to bulge out and not fit properly which also means that the top cover doesnt fit snug either.

Loosening the lug bolt on the + Terminal didn't seem to make a difference. The battery seems seated right.

Has anyone else had this problem? No biggie but might start to rattle now...

The cover in question can be viewed in some of the pictures on this DIY:

Thanks

Sounds like you need to undo the battery locking clamp, and move the battery back a bit

Seems it was already misshapen from before so that's as good a fit as I will get.

Did you do the DSG oil and filter change yourself?
Well done if so.

Hi Egbutt

Not on this occasion. I decided that getting all the bits in wasn't worth it based on the frequency of the oil changes (40000 Miles).

I don't have VAG COM/VCDS - although some people have done the operation without it. This was the main reason I didn't go DIY although the actual procedure is straightforward enough.

How about you?
