so.... was going down dual carriage way earlier and my engine managment light was flashing at me and the car was misfiring also would not boost very high (about 5 psi) when it normally boosts about 18 psi as its had a stage 1 r-tech remap
then had my mate come round with his diagnostics and came up as cylinder 1 misfiring
any one no what is causing this ?
thanks in advance :)

A coil has gone.
Phone your local VW and ask them if the car has any product recalls outstanding. May be able to get it replaced for free.
They replaced all 4 of my coilpacks for free. Worth a try.
Oh and don't drive it too much as it is. You can knacker your cat.

is it 100% coils mate ? as ive read couple posts on here where some say they have changed coils and spark plugs and it still does it ?
cheers james

would the coils not show up on diagnostics ?

Nobody can ever say 100%, but it's as close as! 99% mate.
The symptoms are when your car is idle the revs are erratic, the engine light is on constant then flashing (usually when driving) and when sat still the car shakes. Also feels very down on power.
Mine showed up as a misfire.
Best bet, ring VW tomorrow morning pal. What year is it, and what engine code?

when sat still it idles fine ?
but car does shake and its 02 plate and i think its aum mate

I'm 99.9% it's a coil that's given up. There are guides up online to check yours, but if it shakes when still and it's showing a misfire it's most likely a coil.
Mine is an 02 AUM and I had the EXACT same issue.

ok mate well i was gonna take it to a garage that i no tomorrow so ill let him give it a go over but ill ring vw about it also
cheers

Swap the coilpack over see if the misfire moves also check the wiring however as said 99% it will be a coilpack

ring VW first pal. No point in paying a garage if VW do it for free. If it's no the coils VW will tell you. Just tell them not to do any work unless running it by you first.
When replacing coils you should do all 4, which is VERY pricey. VW do all four for free if your car hasn't had a recall yet.

Check me out with all my MK4 knowledge. Shame I cant fooking fix mine. Bloody electric problems. I swear the electrics in the MK4 were designed by plumbers because VW ran out of electricians.
