Guys.
Got a bit of a shock last night, I went over a speed bump & heard a nasty scrape which I suspect to be the exhaust, I'm only lowered 30mm!!
Anyway what do people do who have really low cars?
-
must off been a massive speed hump if ur only lowered 30mm
the square red speed bumps i take at an angle  all others are fine and mines pretty low
-
+1 i was down 40mm and never had any probs now im really low and only catch on the ones that are as high as walls
-
Daz - it was a square 1, made a horrible sound.
Cully - what make springs were your 40mm?
-
I'm down 35mm and i need MORE low so it's collie shopping time
-
i just avoid bumps and go a different route
-
Don't know what make they were mate I ordered them from Germany did the job and they now sat in the shed lol
-
The joys of coilies
-
Depends on what coilovers, mine is nearly wound as far down on the threads as can go and it's a very sensible height
I can get 2 fingers between my tyre and wheel arch on the front

The rear is also similar in height with just about 2 fingers gap between tyre and wheel arch.

I run a 3" decat and downpipe with a 2.5" catback exhaust and a 2.5" discrete tail pipe and none of it has ever caught on any bumps or anything.

^^ what coils are you on ^^
-
wont be your exhaust, it all sits in a recess, unless you have a hanging backbox?

Dunno mate, only pervious owner was a lady & was completely standard when i bought it.
How much are you lowered?

last thing i had scraping was the heat shield that sat underneath the cat, it's lost now
-
mines not lowered, mainly cos i have to park on kerb outside my house and it wouldnt make it if i drop it, but ive spent a bit of time underneath the car, more than id like to.
the centre of the exhaust has a mount which is attatched to a large metal plate, this is the lowest point and prob what youve hit.
-
Check your hangers mine were as saggy as a 90 year old
-
Cheers lads i'll have a look.
Had this problem with my old 2.0 gti, used to hear a horrible scraping noise when taking square speed bumps in the centre, no matter how fast or slow i was driving.
One day the exhaust sounded mega loud, as if there was a hole in it, i took it to quick fit who said the exhaust had been knocked out of place & kindly put it back free of charge.
After this i naively returned to stock suspension, no idea how much it had been lowered before i bought it...
