Title: going go hunting this week......what do i need to look out for???

As the title says i'm going out to look for,and buy a mk5 GTI this week with the DSG gearbox and was looking to find some anwers to some questions i have

1) is there anything that i should be looking for that is a known fault with this model

2) @ what millage is the cam belt ment to be replaced

3) what were the options for this car above the standard kit,as i'd like to get one that's got a higher spec as possible

well thanks for the wealth of information,best i go find a forum where the members might help with my questions,over 100 views,and not one reply,pretty piss poor really,glad my members on my motorcycle forum that im an admin on aren't so unhelpful,still goes to show the difference between car drivers and bike riders,happy christmas everyone ho ho f**kin ho   :angry:

Better no reply than some of the replies you get on the Mini forum.

I'm new here just got my GTI so I can answer one of your questions.

The cam belt needs to be changes every 4 years or X amount of miles (can not remember the amount)

1.  Check the mechatronics is ok in the DSG.  Rear wiper motor can develop fault as can coolant expansion bottle.
2.  Cam belt needs replacing at 60k
3.  Standard kit is Air con, heated mirrors, cloth interior, 17" alloys, cd player

Or 4 years which ever comes first.............

check boot badge and wheel centre caps for white worm especially on early mk5's. the boot badge was changes in about 2007 or so

DSG oil change at 40,000 too.

Check the service schedule has it been on long life or T&D servicing.

Steering wheel paddles were an extra on earlier cars and standard later on. MFW was extra all through production.

Earlier head units (RCD300 + RCD 500) that don't have mp3 above the CD slot don't play MP3s.

On the later cars leather was standard. With regards to options there are so many combinations 17" or 18" wheels etc.

The best way would be to have a look at these price lists:-

Not sure we want you driving our cars, perhaps a Focus ST would be more your line?

Surely you'd know then that sometimes forums take a while to respond.

Away and stick some stabilisers on your bike and attitude, that should give you all the four-wheeled enjoyment you need.
