Title: Rattling engine cover
Post by: dubber36 on 10 December 2011, 15:25
I noticed a rattling sound at idle coming from my 140 CR. I lifted the bonnet and pressed down on the engine cover which silenced it. It seems to be the fixing on the front right (as you stand and look at it) but I can't see anyway of adjusting it.

Anyone else had this, or will it mean a trip to the dealers at some point.

Dubs

My engine cover is fastened in each corner with a ball head type fastening - presume yours will be the same.

I noticed when tidying mine up that one of the fasteners in the cover itself is missing the rubber/plastic insert and so this corner rattles - yours might be missing that piece?

I might try and get the dealer to replace it as they will have had the engine cover off when servicing or repairing my recent fault.

There don't seem to be any bits missing. I've swapped the inserts around and it seems to have cured it, for now.

A bit of grease between the fastenings should stop it.

Not ideal but should help.

Or put a post it note on the top of the ball and push the cover into place the post it note will give you a slightly snugger fit.
