Post by: hockeylad72 on 09 May 2005, 22:49
more help required

when car is at normal temp idle jumps about between 800 -1500 RPM then levels off after around 30 seconds have checked all vacuum hoses and they are all ok, was thinking it may be ISV?? is it possible to clean it (if it can be cleaned any tips for doing it) or do you need to replace part?

88 golf 8v pb engine code digifant injection

any help would be appreciated

cheers

could be isv, apparently the best way to clean them is to stick it in a thing of petrol and let it run. or it could be sh!tty stuff in your throttle body. thats the only thing thats given me a rough idle, well, that and a lairy cam!

check your crankcase breather as these degrade overtime and oil and other sh!t gets into the isv and then on into the inlet manifold.

the crankcase breather can also get blocked with mayo like crap also check the pleated hoso for splits

Same thing with mine, it's same engine as yours. Got meself a timing light, and checked timing as per Haynes manual. Found timing to be slightly out, adjusted accordingly, and hey presto - idles spot on now.

dont forget when doing timing disconnect the blue temp sender and time it of the flywheel at 2500 rpm after you have revved the engine over 3000rpm 3 times to clear the ecu
