I bought my mk4 back in 2009, Jazz blue 2000 Agu. Completely standard apart from it had been lowered on coilovers with 19" multi spokes and a forge 007p dumping to atmosphere!? Soon sorted that.
My plan was never to mod it as was happy with it as it was but soon got bored with the power and after joining the forums started planning what my next mods was going to be.
My first plan was to get a hybrid k03 and just stick with that but then thought im gonna do this once well allowed to do this once(missus) so I better properly, so started looking at big turbos.
I was a welder and fabricator working for my old man a few years back so I thought I could do most of the work myself and make exhaust manifold, downpipes and exhaust to save money. Never really done much engine wise but thought the best way to learn it to do it! and had this workshop at my disposal
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/IMAG0066.jpg)
So I decided on using a TD05 16G because you can pick them up cheap they spool quicky, give good power and dont break easily. Read qiute a few things on Ihi's going bang and defo didnt want that!!
So I made a list of things I needed and started buying them. Took my car off the road and my parents kindly let me use their garage.
The spec what ive bought so far
TD05 16G with forge actuator
Twin scroll exhaust manifold
3" downpipe and full exhaust with sports cat
RC 500cc injectors
Custom 3" TIP
Silicone vac and coolant hoses
Intergrated Engineering Forged rods with Pec big end bearings
water/meth injection Aquamist
whiteline anti lift and rear eibach anti roll bar
Fmic
Brembo lcr front brake setup with fedro pads, braided hoses and Ate superblue
256mm rear brake setup
Walbro intank 255 fuel pump
Hks Evc 6 electronic boost controller
THS FR3 engine mounts
So I started stripping the exhaust, downpipe and K03 off and found myself a turbo.

Td05 next to the K03
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/IMAG0045.jpg)
Got a new clutch and flywheel the VR6/G60 combo and fitted that. As well as silicone vac and coolant hoses.
Then ordered flanges and SS bends and straights to make the manifold.
This took a while to get right but finally did so I could top mount the turbo.
I then got a Forge actuator and made a mounting bracket and fitted that on the turbo so it would all fit in the bay.
My brakes and Ths engine mounts arrived and got fitted
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/IMAG0212-3.jpg)
Aquamist 1s came and I fitted it in the bumper bar and will be using the washer bottle for now.
More bits and pieces arrived so I got a new oil pump, water pump, cam/aux belt kit, piston rings, Pec big end bearings, gaskets and plenty of lubes and oils.
Then I started taking the head off ready to put the rods in.
So I cleaned the gasket off and started cleaning the pistons and fitted the rods.
I kept the standard forged pistons so I just cleaned them and put them back in with new rings after honing the cylinder.
Put the head back on with new gasket, timing belt, water pump. Removed AC and put the smaller belt on. Thought id spay the rocket cover and polish up the inlet manifold.
Fitted new fuel pump and modifed swirl pot (thanks Jamie16v for your guide and help).
Put the inlet manifold back on and trial fitted the catch can and started making up the TIP ready to weld the pipes on.
Thats as far as I have got so far hopefully this wkend I should finish making the TIP then ill start on the turbo downpipe.
Fingers crossed it will be ready for mapping in the new year.

Wow. Very hands on dude, nice one!
-
busy boy!! nice progress! keep up the good work
-
Very impressive :afro:
-
Cheers guys its taken a while but its all finally coming together last few things left to do and hope should be seeing some fast spool up and good power!
-
awesome work going on there
-
nice to see some fabrication work
-
What do people reckon? I have a Td05 16g 9t hotside but I can get off my mate the Td05 16g with the larger 10.5t hotside from the evo 8 and mayb a 18g core.
So the question: do I go all out get the larger hotside and core and be hitting the 400 bhp mark or stick with what I have at the mo the 16g which should start spooling about 3k and get around the 330-350 bhp mark?
-
nice to see some fabrication work
Cheers, im halfway through the downpipe and TIP which I should finish tomorrow
-
I had a busy wkend. I first made up the intake out of 3" SS and welded on pipes for the valves and the maf sensor.
Then I tacked together the exhaust elbow but cant finish all the downpipe until I get some flanges and more pipe.
Then I made up a the charge pipe to fit up to the intercooler pipe work.
Trial fitted it to make sure it will fit.
Next wkend will be making a flange for the intercooler pipe to turbo and welding up the elbow and making up downpipe.
Still undecided on where to put the catch can to make it look neat might mount it at the front by the radiator.

thats some serious skills you got there

Fantastic read. Loving the hands on approach to this and the skill really shines. Keep it up.

Thanks guys for the comments ive worked hard on it nearly give up a few times but its all coming together now and its good to hear comments like those.

Well there's quite a few of us on here that actually like to see people work on their car rather than just polishing their nuts and shining their rubber.
-
WOW!
should go into business making the downpipe, manifold, inlet and charge pipe!
Now there's an idea. We'll help market it and take 10%, cha ching!

Thanks, im thinking about it to be honest. Just need to get it finished and see what power it can produce then maybe start making a kit for these turbos.

You already got your first customer if you do
Apparently that turbo i bought, was originally on a 1.8 16v clio and started spooling about 3k, and full boost by 4? Any truth in that?
Build me a t25 kit please :afro:

Dam, this is not good buisness!
seriously though... i WANT!
how come you put the puck back in? vent to atmosphere FTW
Also are you running it the same as std. i.e maf, n75, recirc valve.
could you run it, MBC and mafless setup with BOV?
Nothing is in properly at the mo just there for show in the pictures but I put it back as standard cause thats only what I know. What so from the catch can vent to atmos cause ill take it out if it doesnt have to be there and wont cause probs?
Ive got a HKS Evc 6 electronic boost controller yet to fit so was wondering whether to keep the n75 or not but without the n75 surely it going to take alot of setting up on the ebc?

No idea I dont know much about the turbo what are the specs? were these the ones from cossies?
-
i vent to atmosphere.
your not ment to, because of emissions. But i just have a long tube into the wing. same with charcoal canister delete, just vent to wing.
Hmmm not really sure. Ask R-tech, carbonchiptuning, or some of the other guys that know about mapping. as you will NEED a custom map.
Defo wont vent to atmos these engines dont like it. I think ill just keep the n75 and put the ebc in as well. I know ill defo need a map I dont know whether I want to even start it without it being at the tuners. Guess I gotta make sure it works tho!

I think they might be, it certainly has a Cosworth actuator aparently.

All i know at the min, t25 with t28 shaft.
If it will make full boost by 4k, the build will be a go, go, go i think.
-
ment vent catch can to atmosphere.
they dont like venting the recirc valve to atmosphere.
all the catch tank is is fumes. increase mpg slightly if you vent to atmos
sorry didnt make myself clear
Ok yeah I thought you ment the dump valve. Ok nice got a little filter from the guy who had the car before me using it with the 007

Yeah just had a little look on it I was thinking of the t3/4 that have massive lag. The T 25 seems all good. Good mate glad your gonna do it and finally grown some balls!

Shocking video, but seems it does start its spool at 3k..

PM coming your way
-
how you expecting the td05 to spool? what psi do they run?
Pretty well. Max psi is about 22 I think. . Its a quick spooling turbo, ball bearing mixed with it being twin scroll and twin scroll manifold should start spooling about 2.5/3k and be getting anywhere from 320-350bhp. Cant wait!!

Best start saving that 15p

Well I just got quoted nearly £300 make a 3" exhaust just from after the centre box and including back box. So nope im not gonna pay that. I got a subaru full 3" exhaust for £90 so have used half of it so far for downpipe, sports cat and middle section, looks like im gonna use the rest of it and make it up myself.
No it wont have a 10" wide tail pipe or what ever they have!? Gonna cut it off and put a nice normal sized oval.
-
I have nearly finished the charge pipe today have made a flange and welded it on to fit the turbo. Have sprayed it with galv spray will spray it the same as the rocker cover next time.

Think I will like wolverine said not put the puck back on and vent the catch can to atmos. Will this cause any problems?
I had a old toyo sports induction kit so im going to eventually box off the cone filter to stop heat soak and use that old pipe to make a cold air feed from the bumper.

In true TOWIE style, 'Well Jel'
-
no problems just gains mate!
It goes in after the MAF because it has oily fumes in which can clog the MAF and mess up the fueling.
In my eyes anything between turbo and maf is bad, because your ecu doesn't know it's their. So i got rid of the puck valve (what you just called a dv ) and got rid of the fuel vapour vacumn (bottom of the tip)
both i just vented to atmosphere.
Sorry I ment the puck :embarassed: will change that. I was wondering about the vapour vac as I havent put that on yet. Nice so I wont and let that vent to atmos as well
In true TOWIE style, 'Well Jel'
Thanks, has your turbo arrived yet mate?
-
Awesome work so far and really looking forward to more updates

Thanks just waiting for exhaust flanges which I ordered on mon and still havent arrived so cant finish the downpipe. Hopefully wil come tomorrow.
nice one mate :)
makes sense in my head getting rid of things the ecu doesn't know about.
-
The flanges for the exhaust still havent arrived  so still cant finish the downpipe and start on the exhaust. Fingers crossed they will come tomorrow.
Made up a bracket for the catch can and mounted it to the inlet. Got a filter to vent one side of the can to atmos.

Started fitting the electronic boost controller pulled the wires through to fit the head unit will mount it hear I think in the vent.
Had an idea to stop heat soak for the cone filter so I bought a aluminum champagne bucket and cut a hole it it to sheild the cone filter and set up the cold air feed to go right to it. Can insulate the bucket as well to make sure it stays cold.

-
 Love it, very original.. well it will definitely help prevent drawing warm bay air in, you'll just have to see how hot the bucket gets but then if it's fed it should be OK. :afro:
-
Thinking ill put a layer of insulation on the outside surface of the bucket protect it a bit more. Hopefully should be all good no bad for £9 off ebay!
-
Genius. Start selling them if they work
-
Love it

A few updates.
Well I did nothing at all over christmas time apart from eat and drink to much! Now its all over its time to get back to work.
The flanges I ordered from ebay never arrived so I got my money back and order some more and they came today so started finishing the elbow and tacking together the downpipe. I also started cutting up and re-welding the 3" subaru exhaust so it will fit.
Will sort out the backbox and getting over the rear axle once ive finished the down pipe and got some spacers so I can get my wheels to fit over the brembos and finally drop the front end.
Tacked together the downpipe and checked to make sure it fits, its tight but should be ok if I heat wrap it.
From underneath
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/IMAG0105.jpg)
Next will weld the flanges so I can join the downpipe to the flexi and rest of the exhaust.
I also fitted the HKS boost controller in the bay. Will cap off there the N75 was on the TIP as it will be all running through the HKS system. Should have really looked at it before as I didnt have to weld on pipes for the puck and now the N75, nevermind.
Then started on the wiring for the meth injection and the boost controller its ready to be soldered.
Ran into a problem now as I have to splice the wires by the ecu to get the rpm and throttle position sensor. I have a agu wiring diagram but still have no idea which is which, if any can help it would be appreciated got to work it out ready for the wkend.
-
Awesome work again pal, cant wait to see first video of it running.
Looking for answers to RPM and TPS, will let you know if i find anything.
-
Looking for answers to RPM and TPS, will let you know if i find anything.
Cheers still not sure which is which, think ive worked out which one the TPS is but trying to find the right wire is a different story
Im hoping the complete the exhaust this wkend. Am waiting for a quote for some custom turbo oil and coolant lines so hopefully will get them sorted next wk. Then will be ready to start it up..... cant wait!
-
Bet you can't bud, will be a very apprehensive first turn of the key though! Or i would be anyway.
Still cant really see anything on either
-
Tell me about so looking forward to it a dreading it at the same time, knowing my luck it will just bang! God I hope not!!

am loving this

Very interesting read, even tho alot of it goes over my head :embarassed:
top work...

Thanks mate, this time last year the most I had done as fit a induction kit on my previous mk3. Loads of reading, help from forums and Ive now got to this. Nearly there!

Started making my exhaust today was hoping to finish it but it was just one of those days when everything seemed to go wrong but I still did some bits.

Had loads of trouble trying to get the downpipe to fit properly but finally managed it.
So took it all out to weld it all up and I ran out of gas!!
This is what is going to look like.

Will get some more gas and finish welding it tomorrow. Will wait to do over the axle until ive droped the front end and will have more space under there. Ive still got to fit the RABR and 256mm brakes so will do it all at the same time.
-
If I want more power I can get a 16g with the larger hotside and put a 18g core in it and should see 400bhp but I wanted to keep the lag to a min so will stick with this 16g for now anyways! Eventually im hopefully gonna put this engine in a AWD so when I do that I think it will be time for a bigger turbo!
Theres only the centre silencer the others things are a flexi and cat. I may still take the centre silencer out yet, will see how loud it is when I start it up, Hopefully in a couple of wks!!
-
Awesome! think were on the same sheet so to speak... apart from your actually doing it
Lol, I just gotta decide which AWD vag car to put it in, plenty of time to decide tho!
-
  were defo on the same page!! I was just looking on ebay at mk2's for my next project, maybe making it AWD but was thinking a mid engined RWD would be alot easier and awesome!!
-
I think ill stay with the golfs. Look at me getting ahead of myself I gotta finish this project first then hope the missus will allow me to do another! :embarassed:
-
That is defo the plan 100% ill be going if its finished.
-
Finished welding up the elbow and most of the rest of the exhaust. Need a bit of a clean up as it doesnt look to neat but its thick welds to make sure theres no cracking.
Welded a bigger bit of pipe on to the 15mm outlet so it fits perfect for the 19mm hose.

I bought a oval tailpipe as I cant hack having the massive subaru tailpipe. Will cut it off and weld the oval on once I start on the back box.

Ordered 20mm spacers yesterday so that should be enough to get the wheels on over the brembos so hopefully after a year of being on axle stands this wkend it will be back on its wheels!!
-
Also finally pieced together the turbo oil and coolant lines they have been ordered so hopefully next wkend ill be able to start it up!

VID!!!!!!
Awaiting eagerly :afro:
-
Yeah ill do a vid when I start it, im going to be well nervous tho!!
Wheel spacers came today so can finally get the wheels on and see how the brakes will look under them.

With the spacers on they may stick out to far to get in under the arch wont know until I take it off the stands its close tho, I hope they do dont want to have to get new wheels!

just read the whole build thread & i gota say YA GOT SKILLZZZZ!!! :smug:

Was very lucky to be able to use my old mans workshop and their garage as I live in a flat, I said it was only going to be in there for a couple on months, in feb it will be a year! They love it!!
It will be a animal!

Thanks mate yeah I cant wait to get it on the road! Its just a shame I havent had much work so far this year so cant afford to buy the last few bit and pieces, bolts and gaskets add up! Loads of work starting mon so should be all good from now on. Get this baby back on the road!
-
I know the feeling as I built a 350bhp cav and couldn't wait to get it back on the road, but didn't have to do as much fabrication as you have.
Enjoy it when you get it on the road mate.... I know you will.
-
To be honest I wouldnt have done as much fabrication if I didnt have to, I couldnt afford not to but im glad I did it now thats its mostly all done!
Yeah I defo will enjoy it! Will need to decide on a next project soon!!
-
Lol, maybe if you lived near me mate.
-
Ordered some G12 and exhaust wrap today so will wrap the downpipe and charge pipe when it arrives. Going to get something to go around the turbo aswell to try and keep engine bay temps down. The turbo lines from Hel should be arriving either on fri or early next wk so now have oil and coolant ready to start it when they come.
Now everything is pretty much all wired and plumbed in so this will be my engine bay. It still needs a bit of a clean but will do that once I get it out of the garage as the whole car needs a clean!

Next prob is the wheels sticking out past the arch heres a picture of them. Its still on stands so hopefully once its down it will pull them in a bit. Fingers crossed as I like the wheels.

jesus they poke out some  might be lucky pull them off mate
looking good anyway mate
-
Yeah tell me about it, not good! There is some space between the caliper and rim but not alot, once it comes off the stands ill know the exact clearance maybe I could try 15mm spacer but it doesnt look like it will be enough. Fingers crossed
-
i have them metal pipes coming of the fuel rail where did u get them black ends on either end mate
-
They came with them mate, need to spray the oil cap and dip stick and clean up some of the old looking bits next.

They do all sizes and lengths
-
wide arch mod  you kmow it makes sense and it will make her look a BEAST!!!!
It would but I want to keep it looking standard so when I put the engine into something else I can sell on the car no probs.
Plus I can destroy some people who make the mistake of thinking its a standard golf!
-
Yeah there was a camber on it if I remember right then maybe I could use 15mm spacers and it will fit but we will see. They are 19" so I guess ill have to change them if they dont a bit of a pain in the ar$e!
-
its gotta have black rub strips and a 1.4 badge on the back with poverty lights surely!!! ha :)

Spacers will take it out further? or you got 20's on atmo to clear stuff?
Ive got 19's with 20mm spacers on at the mo. I could maybe go down to 15mm but I think thats still going to hit the brembos will have more of an idea once I drop it off the stands. Got a feeling it just not going to work tho

Lol, now that would be jokes!!

update?
Right ive been waiting for the last few wks for the turbo oil and coolant lines to turn up so ive just been busying myself spaying things making the bay look a bit better.

Sprayed the throttle body and a few other bits
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20120209_182046.jpg)
Next I bought some refletive insulation sheet and got my missus to sow it to fit round the bucket.
I borrowed some insulation from work  to stuff it with to add extra protection then put it in the bay to make sure it will all fit.

My manifold is just getting skimmed to make sure the header flange is completely flat hopefully that should be done tomorrow. Then put it all back together and hopefully I can start it up this wkend!
-
i cant wait for this weekend
-
Good work mate, can't wait to hear this thing!
-
Yeah I cant wait either its been a year since I started this so cant wait to get it back on the road!
-
yea yea yea the car...
more of the missus!
Lol, my other love
Its getting there just hope this wkend goes to plan. Hopefully can post a video on sunday!
-
Should get the manifold back tonight so hopefully put it all back together tomorrow so in the mean time I got rid of the charcoal canister and wired in a resistor and hidden it, then feed a pipe for the gases to vent through the arch, will attach it to down near the front bumper. Also heat wrapped the downpipe.

What the point of a charcoal canister, emissions?
Does the engine run different without it?
-
Yes mate filters out fuel emissions. From what people say everything runs the same, mines still on stands so dont know first hand. Just fit the resister so you dont get fault codes and vent out of the bay. Removing it gets rid of some weight/cluter from the bag and potentional vac leaks.

Food for thought....next time I come close to it I think I'l remove it..
also hate the ISV, so many pipes FFS...ITBs all the way
-
I agree I think, not to hot on all the abrevations lol :embarassed:
Well easy to remove defo worth it
-
Yeah im just waiting to get my manifold back so keeping myself busy. I wonder what else I could remove?
Someone really doesnt want me to finish this the vodafone network in my area has just gone down so cant ring the guy with my manifold to get it back!!
-
I agree I think, not to hot on all the abrevations lol :embarassed:
Well easy to remove defo worth it
sorry...Idle speed control valve, for f**k sake, and Independent throttle bodies
defo going to chuck the canister then

Well big disappoint today the manifold has only been half skimmed as the machine doing it broke down!
Was hoping to get a video of it starting today but now its not going to be until next wk. Well disappointed.

sand it by hand
lol now that would take a long time!
Well didnt realise how much the manifold had warped, having to skim quite a bit off the flange. Knowing my luck ill prob have to buy a spacer now to fit it again.
-
Well finally after 3 wks a million excuses and 2 engineering companies I finally got my freshly skimmed manifold back today! What a mission!!
Didnt have time to fit it all today before the missus dragged me off but matched it all up with the turbo to make sure its all good.
Gave it a quick fit in the bay all good it doesnt need a spacer thankfully! Will get it all fitted tomorrow and fingers crossed I can start her up!
-
Ive been slacking :embarassed:
Tried to fit it all on sat and just ran into problems ive got to make up something to sort out the turbo oil drain, was going to do it on sun but a hangover prevented that! :embarassed:
Havent had time this wk to do anything because of work but fri tomorrow so will be working on her all wkend!
-
Right ive done some bits today and sorted all the problems I ran into last wkend. The turbo oil drain wasnt long enough so I cut the thread off the 45 degree fitting and welded a bit of pipe in the middle so it would reach the hose.
Next I had to weld some spacers onto the turbo elbow so I could tighten up the bolts properly.
Then I started fitting all the gaskets and tightening everything up ready for the big start up tomorrow.
Downpipe fitted, heatwrapped and tightened up.
Fitting turbo with all gaskets and tightened up.
Charge pipe, TIP, dump valve, cone filter and heat shield all fitted.
So tomorrow all I need to do is fill it with oil and G12 and I cant start her up! Cant wait!!
-
Now you're talking.... Nice work..
Hope the first start goes well, shame you can't chill some champers in the bucket to celebrate.
-

Thats as long as it all goes well but nervous to be honest havent started the car in a year! Will double check everything in the morning and manually pump some oil round before I start it and im sure it will go well.
-
I'm sure with the level of detail you have gone into it will be fine... Understand why you're nervous. Was the same when I started mine for the first tine in 7 years! luckily there's a lot less going on with my motor compared to yours. Good luck mate.

Lol sorry still no video as I still havent started her.
Had a pig of a day doing up bolts on the downpipe and nuts on the exhaust manifold. Ive now got itchy arms from the exhaust wrap fibres and numerous cuts and grazes on my knuckles but finally there all tightened up.
Took it off the axel stands filled it with oil then filled it with water and it started pi$$ing all over the floor! So turned out the banjo bolt that came with the coolant lines were wrong. Had to swap it over with the orignal which was a mission cause it wasnt on stands anymore.
So all tightened up got oil in it, got water in it, wheres the car key? I left the f**king thing at home and live 25 mins from my parents!
Will be going back tomorrow with the key to start it and to see what other problems it unearths!
-
Done the same as you with that wrap, can be evil stuff!
Oh god, i'd be so pee'd off with the key issue... gutting... ah well, all good things and all.
-
Yes mate was not happy at all!!
Least its ready for tomorrow to start hopefully that will be all good so then I can jack up the back and finish the exhaust.
-

Sunday worship tomorrow then, we shall witness all this metal come to life!............... hopefully.
-
Another day another disappointment!
Tried to start it and nothing but alittle click from the started motor. So got a charger on the battery for a while.
Still the same problem took the battery to get checked out and it still had no charge. So now the battery is on charge for the night. Back again tomorrow, lets hope that is the problem.

-
Yeah I checked them over and tightened a few up but it still made no difference. Got the battery checked in the local carparts shop and it wasnt giving off a charge so hopefully after a night of charging it will be all good it was brand new just before I took it off the road. It hasnt been used for a year so should have charged it but didnt think about it.
-
Yeah fingers crossed. If it still dosent work tomorrw ill take the battery out my van just to start her up to make sure it works. Would have done it today but it was pi$$ing it down all day!
-
Some batteries are completely dead if they lose all their charge :undecided:
-
Well I hope it recharges otherwise thats £100 down the drain.
-
Gutted, I hope the battery recovers... I'm usually very good with mine when it's been left standing but this has now prompted me to give mine a boost as it's been I while since I last started it! :embarassed:
-
Mate gutted for you! You certainly know how to build the tension don't you!!
-
Fook £100 for a hellfrauds battery. Get to Costco £60 for the correct Bosch silver battery with 4 year gaurantee.
Mat

Nice one mat for that my missus has a Costco card so if the battery is fooked I will be heading down there.
-
Trust me im not trying to build the tension, lol.
Well you're doing a good job of it anyway!
-
Right after pluging the battery back in I still had the same problem with it not turning over so I checked over all the earths and found the gearbox one wasnt on properly :embarassed:
After that it pretty much started first time this is the first start.
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/th_20120305_185502.jpg) (http://s1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/?action=view¤t=20120305_185502.mp4)
So so happy it works now just need to jack up the back end and finish the exhaust sounds a bit like a truck at the mo! Bring on the wkend!
-
No longer 'sounds like a golf' lol
Good work buddy!
-
Yeah I know you did nice one :embarassed:
-
So happy mate such a relief! Cant wait to book it in to get mapped now. Fingers crossed will do the exhaust this wkend, then its just so transport to rtech once ive booked it in.

I thought I had checked them all lol.
Defo owe you a beer wolverine1091!

Nice one mate, glad you got it started!
-
Awesome!... sound like mine  (I have no exhaust either at the moment)
Pretty much first time start as well.
Let us know when you're going to R-Tech, it's only up the road from me, might have to ask you nicely if I can come and see this beast on the rollers

Yeah i was quite surprised how well it started was expecting it to struggle alot more, I did crank it round for about 5mins by hand first maybe that helped?
Yeah cool will defo let you know when im heading to Rtech would be good to meet you and defo cant wait to see it on the rollers!
-
Nice one bud!!
Nick will have fun mapping this bad boy !!
-
awesome mate great work
-
Cheers lads
Jacked up all the rear of the car today ready to start on the exhaust on sat unless it rains tomorrow then it will be a day off from work and ill start on it.
-
Had today off work today so I cracked on with the exhaust.
Backbox wedged up and massive subaru tailpipe cut of just to see how it would fit.
Cut the supports off and tacked them on so they would fit the golf rubbers
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20120308_121925.jpg)
Then cut it down and tacked the flange and fitted it on the rubbers.
Then cut some bends and tacked them together to join the mid section and the backbox

Nothing like that looks easy to me and I'm sure it was a mission.... I'm in desperate need of an exhaust repair, well just a flexi joint welding onto an old skool supersprint system that's on the mk1.
Sadly you're about an hour away.
-
Fair play if its only that surely you could take it off and take it to a welder and it shouldnt cost alot at all but as long as you can take it to them and they dont have to clamber under the car!
-
Finished welding and fitting the exhaust today apart from the tailpipe will order that next wk.
Bad news it has a hole in it, the blow is on the exhaust elbow im pretty sure but also I couldnt do up 2 bolts on the manifold so it could be from there. Sounds good from the backbox tho. Have taken it apart to find the hole and will grind out some of the manifold to fit the nuts, may have to modifly the nuts so I can do them up properly.
Never just works out does it, ah well least it started!
-
Slacking!
Ive been working loads so havent had as much time on it as I would like but have been slacking as well. Its been a struggle getting motivation as I just seem to solve one problem and then another 2 pop up!
But I have got a new better quailty filter and setup for the intake which I will take some pictures once its finished and mounted. Will be getting a mocal oil cooler and thermostat next wk so need to mount that.
Once thats all done then im good to go, fingers crossed ill get time over the wkend.

Just bought this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120891078278?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
but to fit a golf and with a thermostat, I already have a 13 row mocal cooler
-
lovely job mate. I will be keeping an eye on my oil temps to see if one will be needed in the future
My exhaust may be ok now, my mate has just found one of the joints to be a bit loose...

Good glad you exhaust is sorted mate.
Hopefully that will keep the oil temp down, just need to find somewhere to mount the cooler now.
Should I fill the cooler with oil before I mount it or is it fine empty?
-
Lol its still going just been working lots but heres a few updates.
I sprayed my intercooler
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20120330_180414.jpg)
I bought a new pipercross viper air filter, some ducting and a mixing bowl and made a cold air feed for the intake.

Then my oil cooler arrived
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20120510_134627.jpg)
Fitted it

Im still trying to sort out an exhaust leak around one of the joins and a little bit of wiring then she is all finished ready for mapping.
Need to speak to R-tech and try and get some time off work to take her up.
-
I tried to get the cooler below the badge but it wouldnt fit between the intercooler and rad so there is the only other place. It will still get loads of air may make up something to direct the air just to make sure.
The exhaust is leaking on the elbow to downpipe join its such a b*tch to get to the bolts to do them up because of lack of space. Have to use about 10 different extension bars to get on the nut while trying to cover up the exhaust wrap to stop it iching the fu*k out of me. Joy
Will get a video of next time
-
Didnt work today so had more time to tinker. The wiring is all complete both WMI and the EBC turn on and off with the ignition. Think I have sorted the exhaust leak problem but then of course another problem arose. The mocal core is leaking oil so ive got to replace that before I can start it up again as im running out of oil!!
Will get one of those then can start her up again to make sure the leak has gone it sounds so much better tho!.
-
Mocal oil cooler
I wired it in with a 30a relay and fuse coming off the 12v live going to the gearbox.
-
No all the joints are fine its like its leaking from the centre but inside the outer casing then leaking out the side of it, its hard to explain and impossible to find the leak and weld it up so a new one it is. Im bidding on one at the mo so fingers crossed.
Fit that when it arrives then I can make sure all the exhaust leaks are gone... time to ring R-tech!
-
Yeah it defo does mate, money I could do without spending was just going to send my rear calipers to Bigg red as well to get sorted guess that will have to wait. Least I have the remap money saved just got to finish her!
-
Yeah I supose so
Yeah I did read about you selling your golf not good but theres plenty of time for you to get another, few years time and they will be even cheaper!
-
Fairplay that will be a whole lot of grunt!
Id like to put this engine in something that handles better next but my other half wont let me anytime soon supposed to be saving for our wedding!
Just bought a new oil cooler.
-
Cheers mate
Not excally the same still 13 row tho, got this one

Will fit the pipes ive got, just need one before the wkend so can fit it all. Cant wait to get her back on the road!
-

Put in in a mk2, its great fun even trying to get it in :lipsrsealed:
-
that oil cooler in the link jon does it come with everything needed :undecided: and whats fitment like mate
No its just the cooler I have everything else I had one on already but it was leaking oil so ive had to replace the cooler.
I got this kit with a thermostat and to fit a vw
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOCAL-OIL-COOLER-FIT-KIT-PEUGEOT-CITROEN-HONDA-SUBARU-/400295882671?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5d337e6faf
I had a Mocal cooler and couldnt find one of them cheap enough and I need one before the wkend. Its only 13 row so surely they cant fu*k up the filiment to much, will compare them when it arrives.
Put in in a mk2, its great fun even trying to get it in :lipsrsealed:
Thats defo what I would like to do in the long run into a mk1 or mk2 least if I put it into a mk2 I will know who to ask when I run into problems!

Got the new cooler and fitted it the filiment looked pretty good without the labels you couldnt tell the difference between them.
-
Yeah they need to be changed they were on it when I bought the car, I just spent my money else where
-
Lol you know what I dont mind the wing mirrors think the go alright with the big wheels but would like to change the lights but thats going to have to wait as im going to have to get 2.5" intercooler pipe work. Its got to be done!
-
Ordered the new pipe work today so should come in a few days and will fit it at the end of the wk.
-
sweet, you going to ceramic cote them or anything?
No will leave them lots of it is silicone elbows, may ceramic coat the manifold in the long run but will give it a bit of time to make sure it doesnt crack.
-
Bits came today
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20120523_163350.jpg)
Fitted up all the pipe work and it fit quite well.

Just need to weld on pipes for the 007 and the EBC which ill do on fri.
Now have 2.5" pipe work from turbo to throttle body.
Bought T-bolt pipe clips that were to small tho so they have got to go back for bigger ones :embarassed:
-
I tried to fit wheel spacers to the rear and found that one side fit fine but the other wouldnt so had to get it on the lathe to take some of it out to get it over the extra bit on the hub. Worked a treat.
Welded the extra pipes on so I could fit the dump valve and EBC
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20120527_131746.jpg)
Drilled and tapped the pipework to fit the nozzle for the WMI
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20120527_133129.jpg)
Made up a brace to help hold the turbo to the block for extra support just need to weld it up.

Just looked through this whole thread. Looking forward to seeing it this year!
Thanks mate I just hope there are no problems at Rtech so will defo make it!
-
Just got a spring kit for the dump valve and actuator, just to make sure I can get max boost when mapping!
-
Yeah the whole lot of them so nick can put which ever he wants in there, hopefully the strongest!
-
Not alot to update yet will let you know when I know more  :lipsrsealed:
-
Well I wont be coming inters
Will be getting my car back today un mapped as it has problems ive got to sort first.
There a problem with the hubs and driveshaft, coolant leak and a few other bits.
Nicks been helpfully trying to sort the problems but also didnt have the right fuel injectors to work with my agu so had to order some others.
Guess thats the price of the first project I always miss the little bits.
Will sort out a few bits this wkend then its booked in to a local garage Mon to make sure its all working fine and get a MOT. Then will be going back to Hinckley.
-
Shame- better to be safe than sorry!!
What injectors did u have in there?
-
No way man, everyone is pulling out
-
Yeah well gutted was well looking forward to going and finally getting it back on the road!
Trying to get it sorted as fast as poss hopefully will be sorted on mon so can book her in again straight away!
Shame- better to be safe than sorry!!
What injectors did u have in there?
Yeah your right but still well gutted
I got told they were RC 500cc injectors but the more research ive done on them, I now think they are the Delphi 525cc injectors but wont know until tomorrow until I look at the part numbers. They fit and work fine just dont work with the AGU ecu for mapping.
Ive got some bosch 450cc green tops now so should be all good on that front, just hope everything else works out.
-
Nearly lost it with the car today and was ready to burn the f**king thing to the ground!!
Moving the car to the garage to get sorted hopefully and suddenly a huge fountain of oil shot out from under the bonnet! I opened up the bonnet to this
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20120617_154551.jpg)
Pretty much every last drop of engine oil was over every single part of the engine and bay
At that point I was ready to destroy it as ive had enough of all the f**king sh*t problem after problem!
I found the source of the oil fountain and lucky it was just the pipe from the oil cooler coming off. If it had been anything else I think this project would be game over!
-
Yeah your right anyways ive spent far to much money to stop now! I just had to buy a new hub, awesome!
-
Yeah your right anyways ive spent far to much money to stop now! I just had to buy a new hub, awesome!
I had that on the front of my golf.
Press the new bearing back in... don't hit it with a hammer like i did...
I have a front wheel bearing actually. 5er + postage n it's yours
Cheers mate but already got one
Deep breaths, im going to finish this car.
-
Well on to sorting the next round of problems, a random battery power drain which happens some days and not others and also the other new squealing noise which started soon after the engine emptied its oil all over the bay has been tracked down to the flywheel!? Dont know how or the extent of the damage at the mo but will find out next wk.
-
FML>>>>> How have I only just found this build thread
I know have to read all 20+ pages. God dammit maverick! I'll post back once I'v read it all

Thanks mate it is a long journey proud of what ive done but its my first project and it shows that im still a novice with the little problems im still having!
The flywheel came loose and got damaged lucky it did not damage the clutch or gearbox so it has been replaced and fingers crossed it will be all good and I cant finally map this fu*ker!
........ after I reweld the downpipe to stop the blowing

Ordered a red brembo paint kit for my rear calipers so they match the front and it came and have been painting them up tonight.

First coat
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20120726_202205.jpg)
waited 40 mins as per instructions and added the second coat.
Going to let it dry tonight and will add another tomorrow. Looks like a good match
-
Its been almost a month :lipsrsealed:
He'll come back with a big update where everything is fine................................ I hope.
-
Quality read cheers well done mate looks bloody good
-
I'm a little upset, this looks cool, and I've just read all 28 pages because I'm bored at work, expecting results, and I get to the last page, and nothing :(
What happened to this?
-
Well im sorry for the long absence people but I got to a stage where I truly hated this car and so so nearly split it up and sold it for parts! Have also been working loads starting a new business so just didnt have the time either.
But have started work on it again the last wk or so and am determined to finish her.
So a big day today after finishing the last few parts on the down pipe and exhaust off she went to the garage and passed the MOT. She still made passing that difficult trust me!
There are still quite a few niggles to sort out before mapping but least I can drive it and break it in a bit while ill sort them out, at least it feels like I'm getting somewhere.
Am well pleased tho was f**king nice to drive her again after so long!!
-
Well now im able to drive her all the enthusiasm has returned and got a few more plans.
So back in the work shop
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20121208_113135.jpg)
Im going to break her in a bit so wont be going to Rtech until the new year, will give me time to sort out the last few bugs.
Did a couple of bits today, one part is secret will show pictures once its finished but the other bit I made a heat shield to protect the water hoses.
Took out the TIP
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20121208_113154.jpg)
Got some stainless cut it and bent it round the exhaust manifold so it shields the gear linkages and coolant hoses.
Made some brackets and welded them on and have the finished shield
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20121208_123243.jpg)
Fitted in place
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20121208_141151.jpg)
Will put some heat reflective material on the inside, hopefully it wont get to hot but will keep a eye on it and see how it holds up.
-
Engine still needs a clean from when the hose came off the oil cooler. It was spectacular but oil went everywhere and havent got round to cleaning her up again yet.
-
We I can defo tell I'm back on this project good a proper as I now have a empty bank account!
Done a few bits and pieces as well as fiddling around trying to eliminate the fault codes but am enjoying it again.
Did this anyways, got rid of the bonnet notch and smoothed the rear
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20121208_124530.jpg)

Welded in ready for some filler.
And the rear, my boot never opened anyways so thought id smooth it off and fit a popper. Haven't fitted a popper yet but boot is smoothed off.
removed the handle and ground back ready to weld a plate in

Well I was going to keep this quiet until id fitted them but I'm worried I may not get on the Rtech rollers so not going to fit them until after it gets mapped so could be a while.

My other half was well happy with the front room like this over xmas, she loved opening presents under the bumpers!
Looking forward to fitting them, bring on mapping. Still got more bits hopefully arriving tomorrow!
-
LoL at the last picture. Looking forward to seeing them fitted. How do you find the rear badge delete with just filling it? I've got the same job to do soon and in two minds wether to fill it or weld a bit in.

Me to!
It was fine for me apart from i put to much filler in there in the first place and had to grind it back then loads of sanding. To be honest now that I think back may have been easier to weld a plate in, less filler to sand. But if you fill it right then theres not to much filler anyways. Don't think it makes much difference.
-
Ok thanks for the reply. Might just get the welder out and see how that goes first.
-
Problerly the best idea mate, as then there is minimal filler. (http://)
-
Sorry to see you ran in to trouble but great to see you've pushed on regardless. It's really coming on now... Keep it up.

Cheers mate, yeah it is getting there. Wired in the electronic boost controller again yesterday, just need to work out how to use it now!
At the mo it doesn't boost properly but think that was down to no boost controller and some boost leaks, think I'm going to weld all solid intercooler pipe work to reduce the chance of leak and ill be able to really turn up the boost!
-
Cleaned the engine bay to give rid of most of the oil and repainted rocker cover, looks a bit better now.

Very nice!
Yeah it looks good, I like shiney things!
Just need to find a fpr to fit other than the big ebay ones. Maybe able to cut the standard housing and fit that I guess.

Just a small update
Ive done about 60 miles since the new rods and rings so was time to drop the sump clean it out and change oil and filter.
Lucky I could get the car in the workshop with all this freezing weather!
sump off
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20130112_1522321_zpsd9496509.jpg)
Crap in the oil, not good.
Fresh mineral break in oil and new filter good for the next 500 or so miles then will change it again
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20130112_1122521_zpsc098c062.jpg)

What kind of crap? Just carbony dirty shizzle and nothing deadly?
-
Yeah just carbony rubbish worried when I first took it of and looked but when I touched it, it fell apart.
-
This arrived
Needs a bit of work but I knew that and am very happy with her. Will be going into storage until the wedding, otherwise there may not be a wedding! Need to finish the mk4 first.

Needs a bit of a clean.
This will be where the 20v ends up next year!
-
Love it, pretty obvious though being me but still. Jealous of what it will he running.
What are your thoughts on the big bumpers, not much of a fan personally?
-
Lol, yeah it will be good once its all finished!
Well im not allowed to do anything to it yet, got to stay in the garage, don't mind the bumpers to much theres a lot more things to sort out before them but they will have to come off so I can check it over for rust so will see what happens.
-
Nice purchase

Looks good that mate

I always think these aftermarket big bumpers look too big and cumbersome for the MK1, almost like US Spec bumpers.
I wouldn't worry too much about rust behind the bumpers, although I forget how much the rear covers up the valance. First places I would check is the rear valance and under the skirts and arches providing you've already checked the floor.
Mind you, we're in for a wait now by the sounds of it as you have enough going on at the moment.

Cheers lads

Yes am quite busy at the moment, never ending list of things to do but its all good!
Ive briefly checked the floor and it didn't seem as bad as I expected no gaping holes but until I completely strip the interior I wont know.
Waiting on the council for a garage at the mo so once I get one I can start stripping some bits off and truly see the extent but on first glance it seems pretty solid..... famous last words!!
Will be a little while before I start that, next on the list hopefully this wkend is starting soild intercooler pipe work and fitting the innovate wideband on the mk4.
-
Busy day.
Bought a random box of 2.5 inch bends off ebay as I though id make solid intercooler pipe work, reduce the risk of leaks as much as possible.

Love this sorta shizzle... Ace work! However, if you plan to drop this lump in the mk1, aren't you going to have to do it all again!?... I know it's probably a little way off but........

Well haven't done to much on this as been getting side tracked having to work on my work van which is still playing up  Also been sorting bits for a future project.
Welded the boss in the downpipe for the afr
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20130203_1049391_zpsc8aac4af.jpg)
Fitted it back on the car and fitted a lambda sensor for the afr, pulled all the wires through just need to fit gauge in the car.
Pipe work all finished welded little bits of metal on the end of each pipe instead of beading to stop any popping off. Water tested as well to make sure there were no leaks.
On the car
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20130203_1155501_zps47e922a2.jpg)
Inlet mani all fitted with pipe now connected need to find somewhere to fit the catch can now as it came off the old inlet before. Also want to try and tidy up the vac hoses so orderd some more and will try and hide them a bit better
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/V6%20parts/20130303_151645_zps41191e34.jpg)

Great work as always, rear end looks loads better with those lights... Now hurry up as I wanna see the next project.

Needs a bit of a polish to get rid of my grubby hand marks!
Am happy with it tho, slowly getting there just need to stop buying stuff and get it mapped!
Great work as always, rear end looks loads better with those lights... Now hurry up as I wanna see the next project.
Lol its going to be a long time off yet mate sorry, at least after my wedding but I am already massing parts!!

Did a few bits today, started on moving the battery to the boot and setting the terminals in the bay.
I got a battery power cable from a bmw and fed it through a grommet so it came out by the ecu so I can then feed it down with all the other cables to keep it hidden.
Once the plastic casing goes back on it will be hidden
Used a couple of distribution boards for the terminals decided to keep the fuse box and screwed it all to the battery tray.
Earth terminal to the right, positive to the left, will make a cover to go over the lot.
Next hide the wire through the interior to the boot fit the battery and make a good earth. Shoulf free up some space in the bay.
-
Cracked on with fitting the battery in the boot fixed in the tray.
Battery in
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20130307_144146_zps0b01329c.jpg)
cover on
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20130307_144205_zps52111309.jpg)
Will tack this bolt onto the boot for a good earth, hopefully should be ok?
Big fuse to keep things safe just needs a good clean
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20130307_142222_zpsb0f2a090.jpg)
Next started on fitting the gauge
Stripped it out which was a mission, not looking forward to putting it back together lol.
Took out the cup holder and cut a bit of SS to size and plasma cut out the holes
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20130307_161530_zpsace7e2e9.jpg)
Welded on a couple of bits of metal on the back so could screw it in and its all good
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20130307_171326_zpsbef43d9a.jpg)
Will wrap it, have decided in what yet. Now just need to get and fit the oil pressure/temp gauge
-
Ordered the innovate oil temp/pressure gauge will arrive next wk
-
As always, sterling work... I have been meaning to rellocate my battery for about a year now. Planned to get the shizzle from beemer. Where's the battery box from?
-
Thanks mate, yeah just got the cable from a Beemer, annoyingly it weren't quite long enough but as I added the fuse in I got a bit more wire so now all good. Then just a few distribution boards and all good..... Hopefully! Lol
Battery box was from a 4mo :lipsrsealed:
-
Looks like the next project has been revealed!
Time to move it all back again soon then
-
You will have to wait and see!
-
This arrived, oil pressure and temp in one
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20130313_150226_zps72e12a63.jpg)
Should look good I reckon.
Going to play around and get a good colour combo they come with different faces, ordered some vinyl wrap so hopefully can getting it looking good
Got this wkend free so will hopefully wire and plumb it all in and get it working.
I tided up the vac hoses a bit and now with the battery out of the way can fit the other filter.
So plans for the wkend wire everything back in, battery, gauges, EBC etc and make a cover for the old battery tray and make sure it all works!
-
make me an inlet lol
looking good mate, hope all goes well at the weekend :afro:
-
I would love to take the credit for the inlet but I bought it from the USA,it the obx inlet. Cannot fault it, really well put together, good welds and good design for a reasonable price unlike some of the others.
Bring on the wkend
-
Didnt do anywhere near as much as I wanted this wkend but did a couple of bits.
Needed to join the battery wires together running from the boot so made a joiner, will work just need to insulate it.
Drilled a couple of holes in a bit of tube and threaded them.
wires in each side, screw them down and all good
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20130317_125156_zpsa7f225fe.jpg)
Gauges in
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20130317_103203_zps5b1fc196.jpg)
Fitted the EBC into the vent looks a bit better now
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n521/jonrandom/20130317_121950_zpsd6054678.jpg)
But going to be a little while before I'm back on the road again, lol.
Got side tracked removing these ready for fitting, got door cards hand rest everything ready for fitting

Did a few bits today but have been waiting all wk for a innovate lead so I can connect the 2 gauges up. Then can log info from both gauges. It turned up and they sent the wrong f**king lead so the plan of having them all wired in and dash back in place this wkend has going out of the window!

Lol, hopefully putting it to good use!
-
im sure u will lol there good turbos did u change the hotside ?
-
No as it is the 9.8t can get a 10.5t off my mate but thought id stick with the 9.8t and get minimal lag but still good power.
-
i changed mine to the 10.5 on the evo
-
Yeah but the evos have the extra displacement, I know not much but still it helps. Can always change it at a later date it needs be pretty easily.
-
TD05 16g made 370 on an S3 at Rtech today.
-
Nice would be more than happy with that!
-
Well after yesterday failing with the oil pressure/temp sensors, tried again today had to take the front end off again

As you can tell its very dusty in the workshop and its gets everywhere and over everything so first thing will be a good old clean once shes out.
-
Well the car is pretty much finished now but it just wont start.
Tried what you said Golfyste and it didnt work.
Pretty sure its just the immobiliser as I need to sort out a new key. There is no immobiliser light on the dash but it doesn't even attempt to fire up.
Hopefully will get a new key and vagcom at the wkend and will be sorted. Will do a few hundred miles to make sure its all working as it should then will make the trip to Rtech
-
If it's not attemting to fire up, I don't think it's an immobiliser issue then. As far as I know, if a car starts, then cuts out 1 sec later, that's an immobiliser issue.
-
Yeah I did wonder about that as my old car did that, was just hoping it would be that easy.
The only other thing I can think of then is that the fuel not getting through properly but I started undoing the clip on the fuel rail and it start to leak fuel. I did change the fuel filter as well can you get problems with air getting trapped in the lines?
-
Yeah if it doesn't attempt I would say its not the IMMO as stated the IMMO let's it starts for a second then cuts out
Is the fuel pump priming when you switch the ignition on?
Fuses ok? Relays maybe?
-
I thing the fuses, relays etc are ok will have to check it again and make sure the fuel pump is priming, again I'm pretty sure it is, as there was no fuel in the rail when I put it on and now when I undid the clip to see if fuel was getting the it did leak out.
-
mine started straight away when I changed the fuel rail over, it just misfired for a few secs while the pressure built up
-
Well hopefully it is the immobiliser then otherwise i'm stumped as I cant see what else it could be as those are the only 2 areas ive done bits in since it was running before.
-
So tarter is turning
And tere is fuel getting there, can you hear it prime when you open the drivers door?
Is there a spark?
-
I think so, I cant remember now to be honest will be there all day tomorrow so will let you know
-
Ok pal hopefully you can sort it
-
Cheers mate me to
-
Well its not the fuel pump as it primes, im just hoping its the immobiliser messing things up
Dash on start up

Just waiting on a new key fob now to hopefully get this car back on the road for good.
-
Can't wait to see this finally run...
Might sound daft but have you checked for power and good earth at the starter?

Me to!
Not daft mate as have messed around with the wires relocating the battery, pretty sure there right but cant defo check properly without undoing a few bits. Will do this if it still doesnt start.
Worked yesterday and today this wkend so didnt get much time. Have got vcds up and running and have managed to recode my new key fob so now central locking, immo is working how it should.
Moment of truth turned the key and the starter motor slightly fired and died, battery dead!!
Just got to laugh I guess, battery off to charge then will try it again in the wk when I get a chance.
-
Ah bugger...
Same as me when I finished putting the turbo back on last time, didn't even turn over when I'd finished lol
-
Got the car started today she runs fine thank god.
Someone must changed the fuel lines round when I wasnt looking as I defo put them on the right way round!
Coming out the workshop tomorrow, hopefully for the last time then a good clean inside and out. Just in time as ive now got to do the rear brakes, bearings, cam belt and clutch on the mrs fiesta, shes been saving up the problems just for me!
A few hundred miles and if no problems Rtech here I come!!
-
Good news fella, hope it all goes to plan!
-
Good to hear pal! Can't wait to see the result from a bit if r-tech treatment!
-
Yesterday was the day of hell!!!
All started at 8 taking the mrs car over to the workshop, she failed to say how bad the car was I cant believe she was driving it, it was f**ked. Was scared for my life the bearings on the rear were so bad the back end was wobbling all over the place, half expected to see a wheel roll past me any second!
Made it to the workshop and started doing the last bits on mine to get it out of the way and so I could get home. Then had a problem with the for leaking where I welded it so off it came rewelded back on still leaking, so back off........ that went on for more than 6 hours!! Even my dad helped trying to weld it, he was a coded welder but still it kept leaking!!
So finished that about 830 last nite started to drive home half way home I get the oil light, pull over and the hose has come off the oil cooler and emptied all my oil.
My dad went and got me some more oil I did the hose up tight filled it up and off I went. Made it a mile and the same thing happened!!
That point it was gone 10 so pushed it to a lay-by and left the f**king thing there for the night.
Been back this morning covered the oil spills and checked it and the clip that come with the oil cooler kit failed, you do it up tight and some how it works it way loose.
Will get a new clip and going to lock tight that f**ker on just to make sure, will pick it up later.
-
sounds like a nightmare mate...
She's testing you, stick with it

It was mate!
Well its back home now but had to use normal oil to get it home from the lay-by. So ordered some more mineral, once that arrives will drop the oil thats in there and put the mineral back in for another 6-700 miles. Then get some decent stuff. Alot of wasted money on oil in the last couple of days!
-
But atleast youve given the engine a good flush out instead off using the wynns stuff
Glass half full and whatnot

Lol, an expensive way but I guess so

Havent done a lot recently just trying to sort the car for mapping.
Have a few problems still to try and sort out but its hard to tell what is down to it not being mapped.
As it is, it wont run with the maf pluged in. If I unplug the battery it will work once with the maf pluged in the next time it wont start really at all. Unplug it then its all good.
Still had a bit of juddering before boost kicked in with the EBC so ran actuator pressure and it ran better but thank god I fitted the afr!
Took it to 4.5k and the reading was high 17's! Wont do that again or its game over, no boost until mapped.
Going to get a new maf sort out the fuel pumps and maybe fit the bigger injectors and see what readings I get and go from there.
-
Hmmm :undecided:
Hope you can sort it pal
Guess its a bit of a problem with so many changes at once.

Cheers mate, yeah I guess so.
Well ive fitted a standard fuel pump back in and will make a surge tank/swirl pot for the walbro. Will get a new Maf and refurb the dump valve, its getting on a bit. Then go from there
