Title: Jag s type
Post by: tweed on 08 December 2011, 23:10
I know it's jag so don't carry on reading if you don't like lol

Thinking about getting a s type. 3.0 v6 or a 4.0 v8, I'm not bothered about fuel costs don't drive that much.
I know nothing about these cars. But I do know they're really cheap and fall of luxury

Are they good cars? Anything common to go wrong that costs arm and leg to fix?

What's your views?

Tweed.....drives a Jag....

Leather elbow patches?

If I was going to buy a used Jag, and not be bothered about fuel economy. This would not be my first choice.

I test drove the S type V6 it was heavy and slow proberly ok for motoway driving but the clutch was heavy on it and it defo rolled like MK3.5
As for fuel it wasn't bad it did have a Mondeo, pug hybrid engine the diesel one anyway! But I think the floor plan was shared by the Mondeo. can't remember TBH but the sale chap was nice at the dealership very JAG like VAG sort of a guy. The colours was the hardest thing to get hold of I wanted leather with gun metal grey and a black mesh for the grill. There were some special ones out there and was considering it, but had no poke in second, third for a turbo!
The lag was just awful.
Make sure there is an uptodate satnav system they were quoting me in the thousands and the car they had I test drove was missing the disc maps and it was like £400 to replace!

Alright cars, could do worse! consider Lexus, and a 5 series BMW similar spec and price, but far superior car all round, especially after a few years

Chees guys yeah I hear the v6 is a ford. I'm after a auto, I want something easy to drive.
Il keep that in mind Jay about the satnav and all

You pick one up for £1500, so if you can find me something with the same spec and price go for it mighty.

My old man has always been a jag man and I love em to!  The problem with the S series is that they dont seem to have the jag within, they dont look the part and they dont behave very jag like- more of crossover car.

If i were you I would be looking into the XJ series- thorough bred. At the moment my dad is rocking a XJR100 and I love it, I think im secretly trying to make him keep hold of it until I can buy it off him. Its so nice to drive, comfortable and has plenty of power from the V8 supercharged block (420bhp to be precise). Its a fast car that gets there without you realising, cruizing at 120+ is far to easy, you may as well be doing 40 in an average car.

There's a reason they're cheap, as the upkeep isn't. There are NO pattern parts.
