A letter sent to the evening leader tonight!
A third term in power for new labour appears to be bad news for classic car owners or people who own older cars.
measures put on hold until after the election include:
A proposal that people should not be able to work on there own cars but to have the work carried out by an appoved garage. killing restoration stone dead.
only vehicle manufactuers to supply parts and spares making it impossible to obtain parts.
that every vehicle even if it is a box of bits should be subject to a possesion tax.
local athorities to have powers to seize vehicles parked on private land.
the use of vehicals more than 20 yrs old subject to approval of intended trip and route by local athoritities who will charge a fee.
vehicles of a certain age to be compulsory scrapped!
Legislation like this is a servere erosion of civil liberties intended purley to provide bureaucratas with a raison d'etre
if you feel strongly about this please write to DAVID HANSON
HOUSE OF COMMONS, LONDON, SW1A 0AA

If that really is true then there will be a mutiny on their hands I reckon.
-
that is so not good...
Dinx
-
is that for real??? what a bunch of twits!! can't see it happening to be honest though, it would be a logistical nightmare to try and govern that kind of thing.
-
that would never work.it would cost the police and goverment a bloody fortune to uphold.
-
well, they can feck off. f**king cockspanners.
-
how would they know if you had done any work on your car? not really practical i dont reckon....
-
if that gets passed i can see classic car owners taking to the streets in rage. For starters think of the economic problems, all the money lost by the classic car magazeens, people who organise the car shows, companies who sell replacement parts etc. Its a f**king discrace. I didnt vote them back in, So i hope whoever did feels much better now :@
-
i have done a little diggin around and this is on the books to be talked about.
we need to e-mail this guy to stop it being herd in the house of commons
-
this guy who wants to make this stupid idea law, is obviously sexually fustrated
-
this bloke is an @rse, they are trying to impliment so many things now to stop people doing stuff there selves, why i dunno, cause there all bored sat on there fat @rses in parilment?
i know it sounds stupid, but i can see in the future the 'anywork carried out' part of it, not just on classics but on every day to day drives too, will have to be undertaken by a 'approved garage/mechanic', similar to the way the electrical regulations are changing next year, basically to stop know nothing numpties doing stuff what they are incapable of doing and blowing stuff up etc, and if they do there house insurance etc will become invalid, i hope it never dose come in on cars cause i do nearly all my stuff my self and i think i would loose interest!!.
if who ever started all the 'no win no fee' stuff ten years ago i doubt anything like this or on many other things would even be considered, as over 70% of all the people have no injuries etc anyways there just doing it for the money...
-
It wont get through. Labour dont have the majority to put these things through any more.
If it did come through then you'd find France offering to register UK cars just like they did with the hauliers.

Had a look on the Web couldn't find any info on this subject . Anyone know where to look ( tried government sites and Hansons site but no info ! Where am I going wrong ? Please advise .
-
catch all the f**k*rs that drive without tax mot or f**king insurance before you scrap every old beetle in the country!
-
Folks,
We'd need to get organised on this to have an effect. Does anyone know if any classic org's are drafting a set piece letter to allow folks to print out and send to this chap?
Cheers,
Drew.

If in years to come this sort of thing ever does go through parliament. In theory, it would mean the tens of thousands of 'modified' cars need to be PUT BACK TO NORMAL with oem parts through approved fitters. That will mean instant scrap material for modified cars worth £10,000+
If this wasn't the case. How will police/inspectors know which parts have been recently modified, or modified before legislation came in.

It would cause uproar right across the country. I don't think they'll have the balls to put it through parliment

My sentiments exactly
And this is bollox, you do a better job on things that soem garages....and they couldnt seize cars of private land, shotguns would be at the ready...

I think all suppliers will oppose it. Imagine how many suppiliers of third-party and aftermarket parts there are, but of course, it'd be good news for the manufacturers and dealers.
Think about those people running classic cars from brands that no-longer survive or no longer produce the parts.
Eg if you had a Triumph, and something went wrong, you couldn't just go and buy a third-party replacement part and fit it yourself, you'd have to find an original part via a dealer and get them to fit it. Hang on, there aren't any Triumph car dealers around are there?
And with that 10 year rule, even if you were running a fairly recent car, you'd have to replace it with a new one whether you old one was broken or not. That would wipe out the Mk1s and Mk2s straight away.
-
that wont happen... we pay a fortune keeping our cars on the road... with is by doing all servicing ourselves!
if it does get passed they will now about it.... unless people put up with it like our 80% tax on petrol!!
we dont have many rights or civil liberties!
is it united kingdom or ukriane! it seems like the latter to me!!
-
Looking at it there would be many problems trying to uphold it.....
1.) the taxation would be stupid, how many farmers have old vehicles around in there yards, they would pay through the nose trying to tax for them all!! It would cause more pain to many people with this as they would scrap cars rather than have i stored int here garage being restorer. How many classics would be scrapped??
2.) lots of modification companies would go bust, not good for local economies :undecided: and cars would have to be returned to rights
3.)do we trust our local stealership????
-
sounds like the system in japan where they get rid of cars that reach 60k or something? and they get sent to us all used and abused
imagine some twit driving our cars in another country
anyway they can suck a dick
-
soemwhere with decent roads........
-
its got 2 b 1 sick joke dreamed up by som sick individual who cudnt give a sh!t that it wud make the owners have a riot surely it cant b enforced? dont they care about the people who voted them in 2 power in the 1st place? thank god i didnt vote 4 them tossers OVER MY DEAD BODY R THEY TAKING BOTH MY PRIDE & JOYS
-
what about all the rovers around...
no spares at all for them then
-
I think a big rock will have to be overturned to change things around to that the Aftermarket parts market is far to big to change something like this too many jobs and lively hoods would dissapear Talk about providing more jobs in this country... I TELL YOU THIS I DIDN'T VOTE FOR THE FUC#IN wayne kerrS. what a bunch of retards are in charge of this country???????
-

-
