Title: VW Golf GTI 8v Colour Concept 5-door
Post by: craigro on 08 December 2011, 18:23
Hello

Never posted anything on any forum before - so, bear with me please.

I've been running a blue 1996(N) VW Golf GTI 8v Colour Concept 5-door for the last ten years - regularly maintained, a faithful little workhorse - and it has done 150k or so miles.

It has been lying idle for the last four months while I've been on a project abroad. In my absence, and in the last week, it has been in for a service and MoT.

Regrettably, it failed - ball joints, brake pads - a number of symptoms, largely from deterioration in sitting idle for the protracted period of several months. Most significantly, it needs a new ABS unit (£498+VAT), which renders the repair cost unviable (from my perspective, at least) relative to its residual value.

As a Colour Concept 5-door, I've been told it's rare - no body damage (of which I'm aware), one or two minor rust spots, good tyres, blue/black leather interior.

Does anybody know of anyone looking for such an example - to use as spares, or whatever?

I'd prefer somebody to get some value out of it, rather than just flog it to the local breakers' yard.

The car is in North Staffordshire - Stoke-on-Trent/Leek area. I'll be in the area on Dec 21/22.

Does anybody have any good suggestions? I'd be grateful to be pointed at anyone who would make good use of it – I hate the idea of letting it go – however, I’m not sure when I’ll be back in the UK full time – this visit will be from Dec 21st to 30th.
