what headlights does the VW Golf GTD have? halogen?
Thanks Tom
-
Yes. You can get the option of xenons for an extra £1160
If you go here http://www.volkswagen.co.uk you can see what comes standard on the GTD

Having had these lights for two years I will always tick the box for them when ordering a new car. They are without doubt a brilliant safety feature.
When you go up a hill the lights point down.
When you go down a hill the lights point up.
When you go round a corner the lights turn with the steering wheel lighting up the bend.
Living in the country I find these light a God send. Strongly recommended.

My GTD is the first car I've had with xenons. Agree, they're brilliant! One of the best features of the car and really glad I spec'd them.
-
Agreed, I also have them and they're my favourite feature on the car. They are stupidly expensive though, I'm not sure I get why a pair of headlights should cost even half what VW charge.
-
Xenons all the way - seems expensive but they are not when you look at the price to retro fit.....
-
I do find it funny how you buy a diesel to save money then blow a load of the savings on headlights, but I agree by far the best option I ticked!

Surely you would spec the same options if you were buying a GTI?

I get a company car or the cash, so I opted out and ran the numbers against running my own vehicle, I do 18-25k a year so fuel becomes a big part of the equation, to get the nicer car it had to be diesel and with the mid-range punch it's a sacrifice I'm prepared to make in that most of my driving is long distance.
For similar purchase and running costs over 4 years it was looking like a poverty spec 1.4 match.
But back on topic:
Xenon's are top of my list because its a safety thing, with high miles comes eye strain on top of my already not brilliant eye sight. Now I relish rather than loath darker journeys. Especially when your pushing on round the twisties trying to catch up with the end of your swiveling beam pattern, bit like a dog catching its tail.

I must admit, the golf headlights are the worst in any car I've owned.
The first time I was out driving at night I actually stopped the car and had a look to make sure everything was ok.
I'm getting rid of mine soon but I think the first option if its another Golf, will be to make sure it has xenons.

As far back as I can remember, the Golf has been berated for It's poor headlights, what with various after market/diy relay kits available for them! My MK III gti had only 10 volts at the bulb terminals!!
Bout time VW got them sorted eh?
