I just had a look at that house, the cottage I live in was FAR FAR worse than that when I bought it, the roof had partially collapsed upstairs, no kitchen, no bathroom, windows hanging out, whole garden just a jungle, massive shed outside about to fall down, etc etc

The house in the link is palatial

Apprently Oxford is the test county for all recycle centers
They have put chips to work out weight and non land fill stuff eventually the community will pay one way or the other.
A friend in Cowley has been stopped a few times at the dump and they wanted to charge certain wastes under some new guide lines in Oxford?

Elvi (Jon) might no more about this stuff he is enviromental of sorts?

Maybe its being trialled in the Oxford City tips, I go to the one just up the road from us near Benson and didn't have to pay about a month or two ago. Hope they don't start charging otherwise people are going to flytip even more!

Oxford have put chips into their wheelie bins.  "This is to keep track of our bins if they are stolen"....

NO.

Now that kerbside recycling has been introduced countrywide, the ONLY   thing you should put into your waste bin is stuff destined only for landfill.

The cunning councils have decided that a great way to raise council revenue reduce landfill is to charge every householder for waste that cannot be recycled, by weight.  BAD news for fatties, large families and lovers or ready meals.

 :lipsrsealed:

SOME, and by some, I mean very few councils have begun charging householders entry fees to their Local Household Waste Recycling Centres.  i.e the tip.

It's not - unfortunately - an incentive to recycle.  Its simply a revenue raiser to pay the fines they may incur due to the Landfill Directive.

No one round here recycles, we have all the different bins but they're community bins and not monitored. I think I heard they'll be going back to weekly collections in Oxfordshire, that or another county...  :undecided:

Bonfire anyone?!

Maybe.  They tried to do it on the QT. :lipsrsealed:    But as soon as people found out they went ape sh1te.

All the other councils are watching this like hawks.  If it works, the whole country will be doing it.

It's been around for a while in the private sector.  I was working on projects to put telemetry into 35yrd roro's.  (The massive shipping contained type bins).  They would send a text message out to tell us when it was full, and its weight.

They ability to weigh bins has been around for years.  The FEL vehicles ( Front End Loaders) - the ones with the two forks at the front that lift the bins overhead into the bin at the back - have scales built into the forks.  But obviously  this cannot be rolled out to household wheelie bins.

Or can they... :lipsrsealed:

You may have read in the news about some streets now having a communal bin at the end of the street.  Well more that likely, this is an FEL bin.

Draw your own conclusions...

I'm surprised about your local council's, bexley council have been doing recycling for some time now with barcodes on the bin, if they find you are not recycling they can fine you.

I moved out of bexley not long ago into gravesham. Surprisingly Dartford and Gravesend council have a laid back view on waste, everything just goes into one bag, but I actually miss recycling as it was convenient once you got used to it at bexley.

That's because they know no one in their districts will recycle or even know how to spell it

Not the sharpest tools in the shed the mojority of residents at Gravesend, I'd have to strongly agree there.
