Title: Does your boot lid "pop"?
Post by: Jimble on 06 December 2011, 11:38
As above, when you open the boot either by the handle or the key fob does the lid pop up? I'm sure mine used to pop open about half an inch or so, my car is in the garage again tomorrow to have the camera replaced and some clunking from the rear end looked at, my boot lid doesn't seem to line up with the bumper under the lights anymore and was wondering if the clunking and misallignment could be down to a knackered boot latch?

Cheers

My boot opens an inch or so when you press the boot release on the key fob.

Boot lid stays completely motionless with either key fob boot release or opening by handle.
As I understand it, using the key fob only unlocks the boot - not opens it - therefore I would assume it would still need opening by the handle?!?  You wouldn't expect any of the doors to move in any way or fashion if you just 'blipped' the key fob?

No it just opens of the catch when you use the remote or unlock all door of the drivers door switch. You have to press the remote button twice to release the second catch.

If you want it to open and lift automatically you have to fit Skoda dampers, search YouTube there are loads showing how to do this?

Same here, don't know why or the reason for it?

Thanks guys, i think whether it pops or not may be to do with the bump stops, the last time it was in it looks like they have pushed them all the the way in to try and (failed) to find the clunking, i've adjusted them and it does pop a bit but not like i remember, i still think the latch might be buggered!
Oh well, god only knows what it'll be like after they've had the boot apart to replace the camera!

Yes is maybe adjustment.

If you press the remote hatch lock once it leases the catch and opens about 1cm as said. If you try and get your fingers around the edge to lift the hatch to open it it won't unless you lift the VW badge. If you press the remote again it releases the second catch and you can lift the hatch with your finger around the edge but the badge is easier.

I've just tested this as I needed something out the car anyway.

Once click of the fob and the indicator lights flash but no noise or movement comes from the tailgate. You can open the tailgate though.
Two clicks of the fob and you can hear the mechanism move in the tailgate but it certainly doesn't appear to pop. However looking on the MFD the tailgate is marked as open and the inner lights on the tailgate don't come on but I certainly couldn't see it pop or move when I tried it out.

thats a good feature

if i had the boot popper struts i would prefer the 2 press way of opening the boot in case i opened it accidentally in the garage or something.

if i opened the boot in my garage it would hit the door!

Well when I was looking at these automatic hatch openers I thought does it come off the catch with one click I tried it. It does comes off the the first catch but it doesn't open you have to press it again to open it, the videos on YouTube don't really show two clicks. Well thats how mine works anyway.

I had no idea that the boot release (from the key fob) had a two stage unlock/open like the rest of the car  :embarassed:

I press and hold to pop the boot.

Yup, I agree, press and hold and the (my) boot will pop about 1 cm, tried a double press on the 'boot' button and no difference to a single press....
