No. Without digging out the article IIRC the car was being driven at very high speed in a built up area and losing control it hit the tree with enormous force and deceleration - no car could survive a side on impact of that magnitude. Driver error and an immovable object - only one winner.

What got me about the pictures above was how small the tree was. If you think of the force required to destroy the car like that, and then look at the relatively thin trunk of the tree... :shocked:
