Title: Power Steering
Post by: KaneW on 08 May 2005, 23:45
Hi guys,

Im fairly new to golf gti's so i wonder if somebody would be so kind as to answer a couple of questions, thanks.

I have a mk2 golf gti, with power steering. I have previously also owned a similar golf gti but without power steering.

I notice that the engine of the model with power steering seems to be 'tilted' backwards more - to make room for the power steering pump at the bottom of the engine.

Now my question is, do these engines that are fitted with power steering fit straight into a GTI which doesnt have power steering?
eg, is it only the mountings that differ? - so one could swap the whole lot - and it would fit straight in?

or is there something else which needs to be considered?

Thanks Alot guys
Kane

PAS can be fitted to any non-PAS Gti. they both use the same engine and mountings. and they aint tilted differently or anything like that

ah, sorry.

it just seemed that on this golf gti i have now, the engine seems to be alot nearer the bulkhead then i remember before with the other one.

as it looked like if the engine was tilted forward like on the other one i had, it wouldnt clear the ground.

so this engine will fit straight into any other mk2 is that correct?

Thanks again
Kane

you've lost me. why are you wanting to do an engine swap now?

what year was your previous GTI? was it an 8v k-jet whereas your current one is an 8v digifant?

the reason for the engine swap isnt really important.

but yes i think this current one is a digifant, that probably explains it.
