Title: New Member :D (Y)
Post by: xAntiVenxm on 04 December 2011, 17:36
Hi All,

just registered on here as i may become the new owner of a 96 gti mk3 16v :)
friend of mine is selling it and i'm pretty interested

I do pretty much all of my own car work, i currently have a 98 fiesta that i turned from a non-runner to driving like a dream.
currently looking into how much the insurance would cost me having the gti, hoping that cause i'm over 25 it won't cost my limbs lol.
also just noticed the sky insurance topic on another forum, but can't get the online quote page to work, keeps returning an error :/
but yes, so hi everyone :D lol

Well if he's a good friend he will let you know whats wrong with it and as you seem to know abit about cars you will know what to look for.Mk3's seem to have the same nagging issues so a good search on here will stand you in good stead.Good Luck.

cheers mate (Y)
he's a good lad and reckons the engine's completely sound, just a few cosmetic bits needing some tlc just as it's an old girl, but yeah deffo gonna have a read on here and learn the common issues to watch for!

Depending on what area you live in there are some sound guys on here who break Mk3's on a regular basis so picking up genuine parts are not a problem.Plus there cheap and guaranteed .As for insurance maybe putting a search on google may be a good idea.Insurance aint cheap no matter what your age.

haha nah it definately is not cheap.. there's a scrappy near me who are some sound people, gave me really good deals on bits i needed for the fiesta, so im sure they'll have a few mk3 golfs knocking about for me to pick bits off!
so far insurance quotes ive been relying on confused.com. tried the other comparison sites like gocompare (they were the most expensive, which was good, allows me to refuse their offers on the principle that i hate their annoying adverts! :P ) comparethemarket (also pricey, screw the meerkat). i'm interested in what that sky offer the forum has has to offer.

depending what state the car is in, and with it being out of mot, it will need some bits doing for it, so may keep it off-road until i've sorted its bits out.

Welcome to the forum..... hope you end up getting the mk3 and your insurance isn't too bad, shouldn't be at your age, but then I don't know where you live.

I've looked at them but haven't run a quote with them yet as i don't yet know what mods the car has. as far as i know, it's only got a full stainless exhaust system, however not whether that includes the manifold or just the tube and backbox, or whether it's cat-backed or standard mani and cat.. it's got BBS alloys, but i'm not aware of any other mods.

I've seen people talking about the quotes they got in that forum section, some seem to be paying cheaper for the modded car than they would with it fully standard! pretty cool that.
once i look at the car this week i'll get a rundown of what condition it's in, and how many mods and start getting quotes :)

Yes that often seems the case, nobody I found could give me a decent quote for mine.. But an insurer on here gave me crazy cheap deal, just hope the renewal is as good.
