Title: getting keys cut . . .

anyone had trouble getting extra keys cut if you supply the blanks yourself?

been round bath today trying to get a spare cut for a new lock set i picked up and
no one will do it  :huh:

thats od, have u asked if they would do it if u can supple documentation to the car and to prove your the owner

I had the same problem, I went to Timpsons and they said they will do it but if the blade jumps out of the cutting tool and ruins it its my problem. It was fine and they didn't charge me he said its because i supplied the blank  :laugh:

what! i went to timpsons as well!  the lady in there said, we wont do it for keys you supply because thr softer metal breaks our machines . . .  :huh:

The two ive had done...at different places were all to fat for the lock, as not enough material was taken off on the 2nd pass.

Had 2 done for my r click central locking. Was told its my fault if it goes wrong and it dont fit the ignition properly even though it looks the same

I had 2 back door keys cut there about 1 month ago,Both of the teeth have snapped off them so now they dont work.Soft my ass lol,their keys re just as bad. :)

I assume they mean soft metal could dull there cutter or even melt on the cutting surface!
Just go to the back street people if they are still about they have older cutter machines that will do a better job.

cant you just buy a blade off them and get them to use that to cut a key....

i think ill just take the keys back home to devon with me over christmas, im sure they will do it no problem at all

Yeah but thats the whole point for likes of Timpsons they make money selling sh!t you don't want!
I'm fussy and only use VW blanks and take them to good old boys who have been doing it for years by eye!
Have you seen the training Timpsons staff get I'm guessing not alot!

yeah right, they offered to cut a key that they provide, but its a bit of a cheek after you have specifically bought VW blanks . . .

think they were just trying to get extra money out of me, and it was the busiest ive ever seen baths hight street yesterday
