Title: Wheel offsets???
Post by: DanChave on 02 December 2011, 14:04
am I right in thinking that if you add a spacer or adapter to a wheel you, in effect lower the ET? For example if a wheel has an offset of ET55, by adding a 20mm adapter you end up with ET35? and if you have and offset of 23.3, by adding a 20mm adapter you get ET3.3? If that is the case is it possible to roll and stretch a wheel arch 32mm with an arch roller tool?

Oh my, what have you bought! (I know they are porka's)

You can roll them, but for that sort of pull you may need to get them flared.

In January I will be getting hold of an arch rolling tool :) the fronts wont be an issue because they are single skinned and I have already binned the arch liners! Its more the rear arches I am worried about. I guess with a bit of camber adjustment and a bit of an arch roll a will be fine :) I hope........ starting with a 15x7j wheel with ET23.3 and using 20mm adapters, this leaves me with an offset of ET3.3. I gain 32mm inside clearance and loose 32mm on the outside......I guess my Golfie will be getting about 7cm wider next year!

I used a roller and a big club hammer.

I've been looking at getting some Porsche Cookie Cutters but I don't think they are going to work. I need to get an extra 25mm from my arches and they are only 7j's so I don't think its really worth it.

you can get cookie cutters in the higher offsets if you keep looking

I think that's the plan. Apparently they also came in 15x7j with ET52 which is the same as most Porsche rims fitted to VW's such as the Cups, 928's and D90's etc :)

Most cars on the scene are now getting extended arches but keeping the same lines as standard. So not noticeable but really effective

I'm all for that, it looks awesome! However that's to much work for the MK3 as I will be selling in the new year to fund a MK1 project :) MK1's usually need wings and rear arches replacing so I can always widen then. Plus I have seen them running the ET23's on the rears with just rolling the lips an running 6j's on the front :)
