Had a nightmare with the car over the last two weeks
I had a new clutch fitted and the chap who did it never fit the earth wire back up properly so after much investigating found out the ECU had been blown, replaced this and the car would still not start with the key but when you run a wire from the battery to the connector in front of the starter motor it starts a treat.
I was adviced that this bypasses the ignition switch but after replacing the swich I am still getting nothing from the key.
I am wondering if I may also need to replace the small unit on top of the ECU ?
Cheers

Unfortunately I don't have the equipment to test the relay, I have put my hand on it while turning the key and it feels like it is clicking but isnt really a full proof test.
Can you pick up one of these relays fairly cheap?

was the switch the problem ??? got a 16v mine just stopped. would tun over but would not spark nor did the fuel pump kick in. after days of changing fuses relays switch loss of hair checking fuse box turned out to be the earth going to the dizzy had perished and snapped. re earth fired straight away. dont know if the 8v is the same tho ?

It was originally not starting becasue the man who had fitted my clutch never re secured the earth wire that is attached to the gearbox. When I tried to start the car it must of sent some sort of current back to the ECU and damaged it.
After changing this the car starts but only by running a wire from the battery to the starter, I get nothing from turning the key, i'm gonna change the ECU relay and see if I get any joy out of that.
