Title: courtesy light control??
Post by: lostplanetj on 06 May 2005, 22:37
1990 H MK2 GTI 56 door digifant (if that matters),
i have a bentley manual for the Mk2 GTI etc but i cant find the relay or what triggers the courtesy light to stay illuminated for 5 - 10 seconds after closing the door.
where can i find this?

i need to bypass this as my new cobra alarm signals that something is not right all the time the light is on.
if the bulb blows then i will have a whining cobra for a minute after each arming.
plus i dont like the light coming on at all, so i would really like to totaly bypass this.

we have had to add a seperate relay to the door switch earth return (as suggested by cobra tech support) and i thought this would have solved the problem.the alarm was then reprogrammed to enable the wiring to bypass the original setup.

i had same problem but the cobra has to be setup to delay for as many seconds as needed for the light to go out ie it is active but waits a few seconds to fully arm. not sure if your having the same problem but you arm and the doors lock etc and as soon as the light goes out the siren goes off or is wont activate and makes funny noises.

The time delay is controlled by circuitry inside the light unit itself, simply swap it for one which doesn't have the delay.
You can easily tell between em because a unit with the delay has a PCB with wires, chips and capcitory type things on it :)
