Title: Bonnet Dampers
Post by: Bazza1975 on 01 December 2011, 07:13
Hi,

Has anyone here fitted bonnet dampers to their VR6 ?

I only ask as I bought some a few weeks ago but when I went to fit them yesterday I found that the bolt in the inner wing is actually a screw thread but the bolts supplied are something like M8 & M10's.

I phoned the company & was told that I have to screw the new bolts in place of the old ones & fit a washer & nut underneath ? Is this right & if so how do I get underneath the bolts to fit the washers & nuts ?

Cheers for any help.

Baz

Get yourself to a scrappy & pick up some boot struts, they work perfectly. There should be no need to fit washers & nuts.

Well I'd love to know how you propose he fits a nut without removing the wing

When I fitted mine they screwed into an existing hole in the wing, granted I used a washer but there was no need for a nut.

Please don't use the "" when you clearly don't know what you're on about.

Ask Shady, read the thread he made.

You slot a 13mm spanner nut and washer under the wing where the  boot strut lines up. Unless you had some magical strut or put them on in a completely different place to the rest of the forum.

I will get a photo later. The 13mm nut and washer is EASY to fit. So don't worry about it, no need to pull the wing off.

Pot, kettle, black :lipsrsealed:

Mine screwed in without the need for a nut, the bolts were the correct size for the hole:

But seeing as I clearly don't know what I'm talking about, despite doing it to both the Mk3's I've had, I'll leave you to go back to being the be-all and end-all of Mk3 related gobsh!te.

They're bonnet struts.  Not boot struts you advised to use. They ARE different. Boot struts need nuts. I'd imagine the OPs items are the same.

As you were.

Bellend and I have a love/hate relationship

Post a pic of what you have and we should be able to give you some advice instead of arguing with each other!

Here you go.

The 1st photo is what is on the car, the 2nd is what came with the dampers (although I'm sure you would have guessed anyway)

My mums out in my MK3 ATM but they probably go in the wing where the rubber blocks are. Take them out then can put a washer and nut underneath it.
