Title: steering is way off!!help!
Post by: swinie on 06 May 2005, 16:02
hey all,

got the car back from the garage and they did a few things to it, mainly the brakes, but they also changed one tyre and the ball joints. now i only got it back yesterday and the steering feels like its all over the place. to go straight i have to hold the steering wheel at about 45 degrees and its light turning one way and not the other (im sure thats because of the new tyre). any ideas as to why the steering wheel is off centre?im worried that the wheels arent lined up properly, but if they are and thats all fine can i just take the steering wheel off and put it back on at a slightly different angle?

what dya rekon?

thanks all

mike

Get the car tracked properly. Taking the steering wheel off isn't the answer usually.

Also, buy a new tyre for the other side. I have never bought single tyres, always buy in pairs unless you've just damaged a new tyre.

I'm always bleating on about it but if your ball joints have been replaced you should get your camber re-checked aswell. That could cause the light steering in one direction as there may be different areas of tyre in contact with the road on each side.

Give your nuts a good yank just incase. Dont forget to fix the car either.  Sorry, old joke but someone had to say it with a quote like that.
