What are these like with a remap any good? Seem the cheapest option golf for me right now. Currently rocking a 2.slow which is awful performance and economy wise to say the least. It's got a couple of nice mods which I'd want to take with me to put on the derv. So what are they like ??

Go very well indeed  Remap to approx 140bhp

Anything to look out for on the high milers?

Only the same as others - worn clutch and turbo might need a bit of TLC but they generally tend to be robust engines :afro:

gather you dont want mine anymore pal?

Did you not get my message then mate??

Cheers pal what sort of things would I need to do to give the turbo a longer life?

First check for side to side movement in the shaft, if there is any get it refurbished - its much cheaper to do before it explodes.
When you've been driving don't just stop and turn the engine off get it a min or so for the turbine to slow.
Change your oil and air filter on time.
Enjoy the beastie, they are a great engine

Defiantly want one and NEED one,im sick of petrols now unless your going to buy a 200bhp plus petrol then dont bother i'd say.
Can the gt tdi's have turbo timers ie so the car stays on for a minute to winded down..

Just ease off the gas for the last mile or so will do exactly the same job

It wont though will it 30mpg with no performance or 45plus mpg with average performance. Old petrols are awful nowadays

He means about the turbo timer.
I've got one and been really surprised! I didn't want to consider one and was set on a pd130. Bought our 110 ASV and been really impressed, goes like stink as standard and achieves between 42 - 50mpg at all times. On a run to Bristol it ticked over 53mpg. I've gone from filling up every 4 days to near on 2 weeks.
