i have to put up with these ignorant f**ks all day, im white and the stupidity and arrogance of people who think 'they' own this country pisses me off, lets just forget the fact that she probably isnt even british herself, very few are 100%

i nearly go hit at work for the same kind of argument when i said the royal family is french origins!

The answer is not clearcut. The Normans were a Germanic group whose ancestors had settled on coastal Gaul (france) and then granted a province by the Gaulish king. The Vikings already were raiding the English coasts well before their "cousins", the Normans, decided to take over in the William the Conqueror invasion. Thus, the Normans were "French" but genetically Germanic/Nordic.
 
The answer gets even more complex when the Anglo-Normans, now based in England, tried to gain control of parts of modern day France and eventually tossed out, a movement highlighted by Joan of Arc. The Anglo-Normans (who spoke proto-French), were so pissed, that they declared that the new hybrid Norman-Old English dialect become the new language of England, replacing Old Norman as the official language.

This means that, if the Anglo-Normans had not been repelled by their French/Gaulish fellow nobles, that the official language of England would have continued to be Old Norman (and eventually French).
 
Before you can even simplify all this, remember that modern France came out of a Germanic tribe the Franks and explains why French nobility have a higher pecentage of blonds compared to the general French population.
