Title: RETROFIT CRUISE CONTROL - DIFFERENT KINDS ????
Post by: Dave_R on 06 May 2005, 13:45
Hello to all.  Me names Dave, here in sunny Newcastle.  Brand new to this great site - very informative!  It is help I'm after...I cannot find it but I am sure I have read somewhere that there are different stalks for Cruise Control?  I'm now in a bit of a flap as I have recently purchased a kit from ebay (£50) to fit to my Mk IV 1.8T.  Before I proceed to strip the car apart and really pee my wife off for disappearing into the garage for the weekend I would like to know if I have the right gear.  The car has an ARZ engine code and the stalk I have bought has a part number of 8L0 953 513 J.  It also has LO3 and AO4 on the sticker?  The wiring loom is 1 J0 971 425.  If my world is about to crumble coz I can't use this kit please be gentle with any replies.  Thanks very much and it's now raining in Newcastle (great!).

both types of stalk will work, but the newer type stalk(1JO) has the +/- speed switch on the end.
The 1.8t is not wired to the ecu either so you will need a loom for this too.

  Cheers mate.....one soon to be peed off wife! (However, if it all goes wrong I will need her car!!!)  Does anyone know where I can get the ECU loom from?  I have emailed someone through another Mk IV site but have had no reply as yet.  I am happy to have a go myself but would be better if I could buy a ready made loom.  Thanks again, Dave.

Check out this site http://www.golfmk4.co.uk/index.htm he has a full how to guide on fitting cruise, and he sells the loom, it is the only place i know to get one.  When you remove your air bag make sure the steering wheel is in the correct position or you will be in a whole world of pain.

Only takes about 2-3 hours to do, but you will need VAG-com to enable cruise when you have finished.  I got a garage to fit mine £70 all in , took them hour and half with loads less hassle

Whey hey.........fitted the cruise kit meself, found a fella to switch it on via VAG-COM (£20 though) and it worked first time!!!!   Well happy.  For anyone interested I have posted the guy's details on the garages board.  Stealership wanted £50 to switch on cruise......told to poke it up their hoop!

PS.  Made me own ECU loom as well.
