was looking behind my dash because i got bored and on the plug that goes into the headlight switch there is a red plug not being used (see picture) just owndered what's it for and should i plug it in to something

Probably fogs.
Depends what car you got.
-
1.4 se had it don't have fogs :S or the wiring for it as far as i know :) i want fogs and planning to fit them hence why I had a quick look at the loom for headlights :)
-
Wiring looms can have all sorts of plugs etc. with nowhere to go.
I'm only guessing as I'm sure my headlight switch has that secondary plug.
-
i was thinking it had no purpose :)
-
I think its for electric headlight height adjustment. Some cars have the loom, but none of the other bits needed to utilise it.
-
Edit: trog_nfs beat me to it :P
(I think this might be the height adjustments on headlights?)
-
thinking about it now it sounds like a pretty good answer

^^ As above
It's defiantly the headlight level wiring plug.....
-
whilst on the topic of lights. how would u go about fitting fogs to mk3 cl?

Change the switch and the headlight loom (one from the slam panel forward) with GTI spec items.
Its really easy.......
-
it an expensive process?

Looms usually sell for around £15-£20 on eBay, expect to pay at least that again for a decent set of fog lights. You'll also need to the front fog headlight switch as well so you're probably looking at about £50 for all the bits you require to get them up and running.

^^ sounds about right :)
