Title: ?wrong thermostat(16v)
Post by: benmk1 on 06 May 2005, 07:16
Help 4 my '87 16v

I've just changed my water temp sender and while i was at it the thermostat.
Now the car keeps over heating, so I went elsewhere an bought an changed the thermostat again, and it's still overheating , any ideas?

Anyone got the correct vw part no. for the correct thermostat, if it is this

I have ruled out the temperature sender as the oil temp is also shooting up, an the fan kicks in early
Please help as I'm supposed to be doing my advanced driving test tomorrow!
Thanks

Old one snapped, which started this whole problem

I got a funny feeling that the water pump is shot, any know what the symptoms of no pump are?

Well I expect the engine would get very hot and the other coolant pipes would stay cold.

Sounds about right!

Bought a new water pump today, looks like a bit of a git to fit, think I'll just pay someone who knows what they're doing.
