Title: 16v splutter when headlights turned on
Post by: neville bartoz on 26 November 2011, 18:26
Hi all

As above, a friends 16v mk2 has recently started to intermittently splutter when you turn the headlights on and you leave it to idle or back off the throttle. As soon as you turn the headlights off no problems. Any ideas?

Previous to this, the fuel pump fuse has melted(not blown) but this happens rarely and has been fine for a couple of months.

Thanks Mark

I had this on mine. Found it was the ignition module at fault by moving off where its screwed down while it was running. If I moved ecu cage it would spark at the base of the cage and not run, sounds daft I know but it all happened after I messed about in that area. I know yours hasnt got an ecu there but it still has the cage with the amplifeir on it. Worth trying for the sake of 2 screws.
Couldn drive at night in mine because as soon as I put lights on it made the car rough.

We've have had a lot of problems with that particular part in the past. Will give that a try on the weekend.
