Don't think this is the normal GTi starting issue............
Starts within a second or so when cold/been stood for a bit but takes about 3/4 secs of cranking when its been run/hot. Id say its getting slowly worse over the last few months.
Ive noticed if you quickly hit the starter, ign off and restart it fires up quicker than letting it churn away. Never cuts out or runs badly when hot or cold for that matter, just the starting prob.
Any ideas?
I'm thinking fuel related almost as though its evaporating or airlocking somewhere and it's needing a good squirt from the pump to fire it up. Checked the usual suspect relays and none of them are cold. Could it be the coolant temp sensor (or do I mean ECU temp sensor!)? Is there a way to check it?
Thanks in advance

I had this issue. Never got to the bottom of it.

Fuel pressure reg, clogged return pipe, fuel pump. :undecided: all speculation but possible

coolant temperature sensor?

Are we talking 8v or 16v here?
-
8v sorry.
I imagine a blocked/restricted fuel line would manifest itself by rough running at all rpms, not just starting when it's warm?
Coolant temp sensor is an option I suppose but the quoted symptoms don't really match mine. Might be worth a swap to rule out though.
Cheers for the suggestions guys

These kind of things are usually a fuel evaporation problem.

I thought that was more of a carb problem rather than injection? Where is it evaporating to?

Before my coil packed up it wouldn't start unless i let the car cool down and then it started.

Have you checked the compressions

Nope?

Nope?
Might be worth doing it tbh.

Ok, 130k ish so never a wasted job but why do you reckon low compression would result in slower starting when hot?
Cheers

Coil replaced about 3 months ago when it died, same symptoms then and now :/

Well it could be losing compression as it gets hot thus meaning harder to restart
