Is that your gearbox bell housing? Does it smell like rotting flesh? (honestly smell it, see if it gear oil). Wipe it clean first then see if it comes back/see how long it takes to come back
-
If it is gear oil then you have a shaft seal leaking, engine oil will be the crankshaft seal.
-
I believe its from my bell hosuing yea. is coming from the gear box side of the engine... how am I suppose to know what rotten flesh smells like! Haha
Easy job to fix or? I'm guess engine out job?
-
Gearbox off job for both mate.
-
Lucky got an engine crane then! Should.be able to do it next week. Anything I can do to stop it for the moment?
-
Not really, plugging the hole will only make it gather in the bellhousing, and probs leak out somewhere else anyway. Just keep an eye on your engine and gear oil levels until then. Better to replace a perished seal than replace a gearbox or engine!
-
I would recommend a new clutch whilst it is all apart.
-
Ok no problem. Il see if i can get it done in the week then. New clutch not that long ago so :)
-
your clutch could be fouled by the oil so you might need a new one.

My old 16v had oil dripping from there, took gearbox off, new clutch & lightened flywheel whilst i was at it....
Turned out it was the oil pressure switch at the front of the engine, made it all round and flywheel flung it out the cap on top on the g/box!
So gearbox didnt need come out but atleast some good was done!
Good clean, run it, decent LED torch and get inspecting.

Oh and if you have a 16v ive still got a new oil crank seal you can have for the price of P&P
-
Well i know i only changed the oil pressure switch a few mobths ago. il get it on ramps to have a look
