 ive got a 1.8 16v engine coming my way, FOR FREE and FREE FITTING
so i gather i might as well spend a bit on the ancilliaries to get it running mint.....
now i need some cheap(ish) ideas of what to get parts wise to rebuild it before i put it in, i wanna try and get a bit more power outta it, is it easy and realistic to get 150bhp outta a valver without spending grands?
oooh going back down to a 1.8 but itl hopefully be cheaper to run than the 8v.....
im all excited
-
a 1.8 18 valve eh? sh!t the bed, whats that out of?!!?!?
-
18valves?? thats a new one!
-
ooops my bad
someones just told me itl be a nitemare to do the conversion
im a bit  now
-
errr why will it be a nightmare?
Buy back standard parts for a 16v and take all the mk3 gubbins off. The drive and gearbox are not going to be different as there would be no point in changing all that when a engine transfer is done. Although just check to make sure. Should be a standard swap and drop.

-
someone said ill have to change all the fuel lines etc?
so itl go straight in?
-
would it not be easier to change to a mk3 16v lump

1.8 16v = KR = k-jet = massive conversion job
2.0 16v = ABF = digifant = easy peasey
-
you bugger top thats just what i was thinking
2.0ltr 16v is the way to go. whats the 16v engine your getting?
-
a mk2 16v lump would be a total slag to put in. you'd have to change the fuel pump, lines, injection, ignition probably, loose the ecu, and a whole load of other things!
get a ABF lump and you'll be laughing. 150bhp as standard.

1.8 16v engine - FREE
ABF- not free
if it is a complete nitemare to do i wont bother tbh
-
might be a bit less effort converting the kr engine to digifant
-
is the engine a runner??? if you dont decide to fit it might be interested for the right price lol, my valvers on its last legs at the mo lol
-
yes its a runner, thats why im fitting it into mine
so can someone tell me what i will have to change, im getting the lad whos fitting it to sign up on here so he can ask the questions cos i aint got a clue tbh
afaik my original wiring loom is still in the car  probably one of the reasons it runs sh!te
and i was told that ive got the wrong ecu in also..... ive got a full 16v car so can take anything off it i want to do the conversion, ive got the brakes hubs and carriers already.... what exactly will i need and why does it need changing? sorry about all the questions but i really want to learn as i do it
-
take all the parts off your car and stick em on the valver lol
No sorry but would be easier!!!!
-
no cos its not as clean bodywork wise as mine..... id be stupid to cos mines very clean considering not been sprayed
-
im sure the 1.8 16v will be a belter of an engine if its free..........
fix your own, your only turning your own mole hill into a mountain by trying to swap in a KR
-
Hes right, not a huge prob with the engine u got... fix the oil leak and it'll be fine!
