Title: How coilovers shouldn't look
Post by: Eddbmxdude on 25 November 2011, 09:37
Ok guys,

Went to get my bike out of the car this morning and found the shock top cover laying on the boot floor. I picked it up and went to put it back on and was greeted with this!!

I didn't get chance to have a proper look (Was already late for work), anyone know what might have happened to cause this?
I used the car last night and didn't notice anything different, its still sat at the height it always is

Cheers,
Edd

thats coz your coil is still sat where its ment to be. looks like you top mount needs replacing lol.
worries me abit though as my front top mount has been making clonking sounds for anout a year now and i just ignor it.
after seeing that i think its time i changed it.

I don't think that is a top mount problem, if you check I think there should be a circlip fitted.

Mine did this last year, retaining plate had rusted through relaesing top mount to push through housing.
Mine punched through mid corner firing the shelf up into the back of the car and made me sh!t my pants as the rear end stepped out a little :lipsrsealed:
I had put the clonking down to my exhaust pipe knocking for weeks before hand

All sorted
They were assembled incorrectly!!  There is a little bush that sits on a shoulder on the damper rod to stop it pushing past the top spring seat and it wasn't fitted. I found it embedded in the remains of the bumpstop on the offside and on the nearside it was nowhere to be seen!
I also wound the coilovers up 30mm and the car is 100% nicer to drive. No bounciness and it doesn't even look any higher
