Title: Skyrim

Has any one bought it yet?  If so, is it good?

I've had it for a while now, if you like these sort of games its top notch. However if like 90% of the gaming world nowadays all you wanna do is shoot ppl in war games that all look the same I'd steer clear :P

I think its a great game :afro:

I'm on about 33 hours so far, if you liked oblivion you'll love skyrim.

It takes the best elements from oblivion, fallout and new vegas adds in some stuff ripped off from red dead and a few other games and gives you what will be game of the year for sure.

There was a stat out the other day on steam skyrim had more people playing than, MW3, fifa12 and some other games combined.

Im a sneaky little bastard wood elf

100 sneak, 80 odd archery, 70 odd pickpocket, 70 odd lockpick, 100 speachcraft

First character was a sneaky dark elf mage, but slitting throats and 1 shotting people from a mile away is much more fun

Shame you cant kill kids though, one of the little bastards from riverwood sent 3 mercenaries out to kill me cos I broke into her dads house!

I found that it seems a bit arcadey because it seems to be optimized for consoles and then ported to the PC. But I've only just started the game.

Never played any game like this before, I mostly play racing games, I like free roaming games like gta and red dead, seen some vids of this game and reviews said that's its a must buy so I picked up a copy yesterday and well it's awesome. Haven't been able to put down the controller since.

Title: Re: Skyrim
Post by: bobbarley on 16 December 2011, 16:43
It's a cross between Oblivion and Fallout 3.  Really enjoyable.  I've been playing it almost every day for a couple of weeks now and have barely touched the surface!

i had a quick look thru the quide but you pick it up as you got along, my main bit of advise is save it all the time bcoz fi you do something wrong then you can just jump back a couple saves

Kill all the witnesses

I got a bounty on me when I first started playing for breaking into some guys house, stole his bow and some arrows and on my way out thought I'd test it out on a cow in the village. Shot it in the face and got a message saying all witnesses were killed and so I lost my bounty

Post by: fecked_tt on 27 December 2011, 13:19
runs like a bag of sh!te on consoles, laggy framerate and horrible textures.

much better on pc (providing you can run the specs on ultra) but it's still the buggiest game i have ever played. i understand it can't be perfect due to the size of the game but it is very frustrating!!
Title: Re: Skyrim
Post by: golf-sib on 27 December 2011, 13:40
whats the quickest  way to level up?
Title: Re: Skyrim
Post by: Dan_GTi8v on 27 December 2011, 14:28
what bugs have you found? I can only think of a handful and given the size of the game its understandable

There are a few ways to lvl quick depends what you wanna do though. You can level smithing fast just buy buying leather and iron bars and making iron daggers and other low lvl crap. I maxed mine out doing this

levelling pickpocket is also very easy if you save before each target and steal everyones crap, could be seen as cheating though if you save, I prefer to risk it

healing spells can be levelled by finding some kind of trap in a dungeon and keep walking into it while healing yourself

most skills have an easy way of levelling them :)
Title: Re: Skyrim
Post by: golf-sib on 27 December 2011, 19:27
Sounds good, I only started playing it properly today. Totally loving it, it's like dragon age meets fable.

I love when I meet things that whoop my ass!

Regarding having a second party member, is it worthwhile? So far I have discovered taking all their crap including house keys etc and telling them to go fudge themselves is profitable.
Also how can you equip them up?
Title: Re: Skyrim
Post by: Dan_GTi8v on 29 December 2011, 14:27
I've never had a companion before, took the archer guy in the first village up to the first dungeon but as I was a sneaky bastard he kept getting me found so I told him where to go.

I dont think you can force them to wear stuff, they just wear what they like so if you give a mage a magic robe he will put it on, but he wont put on heavy armour. Thats just a guess though going from how similar games work  :undecided:

I got Lydia, and she has died just before 'The Caller'.

I am now bogged down with 2 peoples worth of gear, right before a boss.

Last save was hours ago, any ideas?
Title: Re: Skyrim
Post by: Steve_PD on 29 December 2011, 15:15
Put all the items in a chest/box or drop them on the floor they usually stay there.
Oh and remember to save, save and save some more. Every 5 mins I save the game
Title: Re: Skyrim
Post by: Dave_IOW on 29 December 2011, 15:54
Its auto-saved right inside the door at the boss fight.

The battle already started so i cant drop items now? Also, i have no Mercenary (tank) so i can stand back and spam spells for a distance

Really good game, but it does take a lot of time to do what you might have thought to be a simple quest... like going to get the Golden Claw back... Now at the door the Claw fits in and my brain is mush and can't figure it out. Clues must be somewhere, but I've looked at the walls etc and nawt, might have to go back a bit. levelled up twice on this quest

Get some steel armour then find a wolf and just tank, this will level you up fairly quickly. I make sure its only one wolf attacking me as they are easy to kill with a single whack

It's bloody boring though

Even more boring trying to increase blocking as wolves run around in a circle and change angle of attack, so you need to always be facing them to achieve a successful block, unless you can get the wolf onto a narrow path (ie between a cliff and stream), this stops it from circling you

That's the point every time I play I get a little box which comes up telling me my mates are on line blowing ten shades out of each other on something else.
Owning AI is not as satisfying as grudge killing your buddies with grenades
I love this genre of games but they really need to get it on line like wow but not as gay.
I did 200hrs + on the first one years ago and even bought a new pc to run it :lipsrsealed:

Killed the Dragon earlier, done a few other quests, now got a long list of minor things to do and two major's. Been running around not doing alot, found a fort not far from the dragon, killed everyone around it and went inside :lipsrsealed: That dude is badass for a lowly level 4  got him down to about 3/4, but probs need a lot of healing potions.

I go in flames in one hand and axe in the other, no time for shields

Wasnt the case with oblivion (or fallout) until they patched it.

Am staying away from the main quest, completed the companion missions, started the thieves guild, half way through the mages guild (wish I started using magic more sooner)

I find I get side tracked very easily with other small missions or clearing caves and forts
Title: Re: Skyrim
Post by: Jay on 30 December 2011, 23:58
Should be able to with a game like this. I went over the mountain riding my horse, found a mine on top of it  so mined that and found a half sunk Keep with lots of Necro's around summoning the undead - cleared that. Found the Lady Stone, a Mill, some invisible dude that killed me after not having saved for 10 mins, got back to the same point, no invisible dude, but a group of three guys and a girl that pretended to be in trouble ( ) so got owned there too. Just having fun exploring at the mo.

Oh and don't piss off the giants at level 5. They WILL knock you into outer space. FACT.

Side tracked FTW, get to see more of the "world" and fun stuff.

Addicted at the mo, have had a few glitches that have meant I can't complete quests such as The Book of Love quest and a companion one which means I can't complete the rest of the companion quest line. It has glitched during a few other quests too but I've been able to reload and go back with those. I think there may have been a patch released for The Book of Love so I'll go back and see if it works now.

Amazing game despite the glitches

c#nt flaps, they followed me all the way to Whiterun, I was standing outside to see if they would follow me. 2 Guards and my housecarl, the 2 guards f'ced off somewhere and left me and the housecarl to it... and as I'm typing this they've come back after reloading my save game... ffs am I going to have to run around levelling up before facing them?!

Will they follow me forever now if I keep running away?

c#nts. I accidently whacked 1 of the guards and they all attacked me instead of the Thugs.

Yeah I bought that house as well and fully kitted it out.  Trying tog et a few more houses at the moment, I've got about 40k gold to play with.  It's weird, I'm only level 22 but can kill anything that is thrown at me pretty easily.  I started using magic from level 1, so dual wielding the same spell is rather on the powerful side!  Plus it knocks enemies back so they can never really get to you.

I built up two handed and destruction/magic so can kill most things with one or two blows, or burn them quickly. I love to run into an area, run back into a corridor and because they all scramble into the corridor and end up in a line, you can just stand there with flames from both hands and burn them before they touch you. Got my lockpicking skills up too.

Not so hot on things like sneaking/pickpocketing stuff or one-handed.

I still haven't done much of the main storyline. Think I have to meet someone in Riverwood but am level 23-24 at the mo. Just spent a few mins this morning following a talking dog!

Ive spent my first few points in Destruction but having a change of mind, and levelling Conjuration now, after seeing what a Fire Antroch or whatever they are called can do, the top talent point thing in conjuration is summoning 2 of them and i imagine you wont even have to use your destruction spells with a Fire one, and lightning one in conjunction

you need to start being a sneaky c#nt its so much more enjoyable than magic  most normal guys die with one shot from a bow if you are sneaking as it does triple damage, and sneaking up behind someone and slitting their throats then slipping back into the shadows to kill all their mates is awsome fun

You can also kill giants for fun, sneaking ftw!

also a tip for leveling sneak, go into the house of the guy that leads you to riverwood at the very start (or any unkillable npc that likes you) and backstab them while sneaking. They wont attack you back until you do it 4 or 5 times, then all you have to do is stop doing it for 10-15 seconds, then attack them again. It levels up really quickly, at the start its almost a level per hit :) works for archery as well

Anymore quick leveling tips, also how do you know the NPC is immortal to stab the hell out off?

I found 2h sword and bow as my primary weapons very useful, not been able to master sneaking at all even though I pickpocket all the time.

I've done some of the thief guild missions. Didn't really bother with sneaking much but the times I did it were incredibly useful. Just been invited to join the dark brotherhood.

Finally stopped f#cking about and done some missions, now part of the Companions and doing their quests. Level 12 and 9k Gold ... is it worth having your own home in Whiterun? What are the benefits over just using a drawer in the Companions place to store your sh!t?

I assume the dragon on the quest to test your "valour" is supposed to be there? It's just that it killed the sh!t heads I was fighting then turned on the mammoths just around the corner

Will have to up my sneaking skills, sounds good being able to sneak up on a giant and kill it

Perk of a House is to store stuff, they will have weapon racks to store a weapon(s) plus other features to store other items. Also benifit of harvesting certain items and a craft table.

I found this wiki very helpful

all main storyline npc's are immortal, but I say the one at the beginning as he cant dislike you no matter what you do to him

also you cant sneak up and stab a giant to death lol, you have to sneak around them with bow and arrow and shoot the sh!t out of them. Its pretty easy though, cant remember off the top of my head but I think with the right sneak and bow skills you can get x9 damage with the bow and x15 damage with a dagger when sneaking, and if you get the thing from thieves guild it doubles all your damage from sneak. x18 bow and x30 daggers!

Really, even Morokei with the staff of magnus. I couldnt get close enough to him, he kept striking me with the electric bolt and killing me took ages to kill him. What difficulty you playing?

Post by: golf-sib on 01 January 2012, 15:06
I hate mages, I usually kill them without any effort, its getting close to them that seems to be the problem with a 2h sword, my bow skills suck, so I really should level that up and give them a taste of there own medicine.

Medium.

I tend to exploit the AI's stupidity to be honest.  When I killed Morokei I stood on the other side of the cavern as high as I could.  He wouldn't pursue me, but instead just hung around on the other side.  I would pop out, nail him with lightning, then duck, repeat.

You'll complete AC:2 - Revalations really quickly, every spin off of AC:2 seems shorter and shorter. Only thing that consumes anytime is the capturing of Den's and training assassins, main story is very short, but some missions are quite cinematic like when the arsenal is on fire, or when you are chasing a boat with templars. But it feels like a really short game compared to the rest so far.

Werewolf thing is something to do with the champions, the vampire thing is simpler, when a vampire uses a drain spell there's a 10% chance of getting a disease, if this disease isn't cured in 4 days you become a vampire. Some pro's and cons to a vampire and same thing with werewolf:
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Vampirism

Also whats the pro and cons of destroying the dark brotherhood?

Join the Companions in Whiterun, do their missions and you'll get the opportunity to become part of the 'circle' aka Werewolves. Not figured out how to change back into one now after the initial run around Whiterun killing people as a Werewolf

It gets worse as you level i'm 18 atm, not played it a few days but I have moved the xbox to the other room so the misses can watch her crap and i can game when I wish.

Also be aware with some quest items, the thieves guild once completed in terms of their main story you obtain nightingale armour bow etc... All these quest items are brilliant with a single flaw, there effectiveness is based on the level you obtain them, so the higher level you are at the time you obtain them the more the item bonus effect is.

Its the reason I've layed off doing some quests (there's not many items that follow this rule luckily)

Brilliant game though I never got into oblivion after playing it for an hour but this has definetly made me an elderscrolls fan.

Smithing is easy. I used whiterun as I'd bought a house there. Buy iron and leather from the blacksmith. Forge loads of iron daggers. You'll run out of iron quicker than leather, so then make loads of leather bracers. Sell them back to the blacksmith. Go to sleep for 48 hours in your own bed, then go back and buy some more iron and leather. In the space of an hour, I'd maxed out Smithing and made Daedric armour, which IMO is cooler than the dragon ones. I also had a smithing thing which helped me make legendary armour.

Heavy

depends how you play the game, if you use the trainers lots, if you level up through using your skills free but will take time.

not as quick but go out hunting, kill bears, wolves, deer etc and then use the leather to make bracers.

enchant the bracers and then sell for a massive profit, this will level up your smithing and enchanting.
