is it a bad/unsafe idea? got a split in one of my alloys, and obivously 3 wheels arent much use to anyone.
is it irresponsible/dangerous to get it welded up to sell. - i will tell whoever that buys them its been welded anyway

They obviously can be done, but they don't get tested for structural integrity afterwards. I've never seen a repair so I can't say from experience, but I would never buy one after it had a repair. Fair play for voicing your concern about it though.

i have seen a lot of welded wheels crack again in the same place. these tend to be where the original repair looks really rough.
i dont like the idea of driving on welded wheels but then again gow many of us buy a new car then check the backs of the wheels for repairs?
if they do crack again they tend to just go where they went initially.
i wouldnt do it but it isnt illegal or an mot fail

i wouldnt do it, but know people who have.
personally ide just sell the other 3 wheels seperatly, or try buy one wheel that is needed, my mate cracked an alloy, couldnt buy just one and a new set of 4 was out of his budget so he sold them individually, after a few months hed got rid of them all to people in the same situatiuon as him, ended up selling the three for more than he bought all 4 for.

i was thinking of selling the wheels seperately, but might keep one back as a spare, as 19's and a 15 inch spare probably wont work to well :grin:

all depends who's holding the torch.
the crutial part is the prep tho, you must find the end of the hareline crack and drill it, and prep the wheel properly for welding, it's a TIG job i've seen ppl try and do it with migs setup for ali but that dosent work.
one the are has been preped it inportant to use the correct filler for the particular alloy your welding tho some cheep wheels are made from monkey metal whitch is unweldable due to components of the alloy seperating or boiling off during welding tho these wheel don't crop up often as there generaly worth more in scrap than as wheels so not worth the time.
once it's all welded they go on a lathe to cut the weld back to the original line of the wheel and check the wheel is still true. end off job done
cracks in spokes tend not to be welded as it's a high stress point in the wheel and cracks theer are usally due to metal fatiuge and if you can see a crack in one the rest arn't far behind, on some cars we work on the wheels get X rayed to see how there holding up as on ace cars wheels don't last that long

its hit and miss
when i had the alfa, i hit a pot hole so bad it put a massive dent in the rim, took it to a repairer who pushed it back out, but it cracked whilst doing it, so he welded it up, but forever leaked afterwards and every few days i would have to put more air in
