Title: Not your usual courtesy car (unless you drive a Land Rover)
Post by: SoundillusioN on 21 November 2011, 09:56
Took my Mazda 6 to the dealers for a service, strange place as they sell and service Land Rovers too........... usually get a smallish, cr@ppy courtesy car but this time I got:

Was quite happy about it until I drove it...  Such a woman's car! Everything is sooooooo over assisted.

Probably would have been more fun to be honest.

Exactly.... Very over assisted steering and at speed felt horrid.  Brakes, again over assisted, slight touch and it plants its nose into the ground.  Interior, cheap as you like, dated displays and wobbly button heaven.  Also felt like there was a lot of play in the drivetrain.  Gear selection almost verging on French in operation.

TD4 motor seemed OK... At least they've binned the god awful 1800 petrol.

Take one round a Land Rover Experience site. You'll soon change your tune. They're fantastic machines and the interior whilst not amazing compares well with most brands including VW.

What part of a Land Rover is girly exactly?

No I won't.

They're cr*p off road.

The Freelander part.

The bit with no low box.

The bit with carpets.

That's interesting as I was able to get everywhere the Disco4 went when I drove one off road, quite a challenging route too!

Uh huh.

So what - LR Experience days are unlikely not to be designed to flatter the vehicles.

A Disco4 is hardly a hardcore off-roader and the Disco3 I was in recently off-road struggled to keep its wheels sufficiently on the ground to keep it moving.

Freelander does not have low enough gearing to be properly and safely used off road.  I've seen people try and trial in them - doesn't work.

They always seem to get bent when people come out and play at the off road events I run.  Sills normally.

No, but if it's off-roading the answer is NOT Freelander.  EVER.

Off-roading = bad choice of subject to challenge on.

the freelander 2 is better off road than most other female chelsea tractors eg bmw x3, x5, toureg, xc90 and the merc box on wheels thing

offroading needs to be done in a defender not jap crap too

Have you been on my facebook!?

I don't know as much as some when it comes to off roaders but the Freeloader is not a proper off roader IMO.  It certainly wasn't nice to drive as a road vehicle so what the feck is it for?  School runs?

Very recent at Burnham-On-Sea... Couple of trucks went to save it but they couldn't.

I thought it was well known that the freelander was a poor mans/school run mothers 4x4... Like a picasso but with 4wd. A better status symbol amongst mothers but not quite as good a symbol as a BMW's x-sh_te.

I wonder what these are like:

I bring you the Ta Ta Santana

There is regularly one just like the above near my house.. I thought it was a proper landy from a distance but first thing I noticed was the lights were different.
