My Mk2 gearbox seems to have developed a problem overnight. Took it to the MOT test centre and they rang to say that they couldn't get it into reverse even though i reversed it into a space the night before. It seems when the gear stick is put into the reverse position it goes into first. Driving back from the test centre it did seem that selecting gears was a bit hit and miss and several gear changes ground into gear. The clutch engaging point on the pedal is quite low and it has recently had a new selector rod on the gear linkage. could the problem be ither of these issues or is it something worse?
Any help would be great

did you replace the various other linkage bushes/rubbers when you did the selector rod? Could just need the slop taken out then re-alligned. Parts and an alignment tool are only a couple of quid

Sounds like nut that goes on top of the t shaped ball has come loose, happened to me a few times to the point where i lost gears.
