Hi all i am really interested in getting about 225-275bhp :grin:out of my mint mk3 golf gti 8v. I dont want to pay a specialist £4000 to get it. What are my options ? and does anybody know anybody who does engine conversions for less than the price above .The car is mint no rust a all in electric green with full factory leather and 77000 miles on board drives like new, which in my opionion diserves more power to complement the rest of the car.I dont fancy a vr6 engine but would,nt mind a 2.0 tfsi or g60 engine. Please help me out as i am in a predicament on what to do ?

Use this. http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?action=search
Its asked alot, 4k isn't alot for what you'll need, and you WILL NOT get that power out of an 8v. 1.8T is your best option for cheap power.
-
have a look at kells F17 BAD. If you want power, thats the way to get it.
-
mines same as yours. I got 32,000 miles, thought it would be a shame to throw it out. But after all the research I've done I've realised it just aint worth the cash.
£4000? pah double that mate. engine build will not cost that much. it's gearbox, brakes, etc too.
You can spend that on a vr6 turbo and get 500whp but that is too much power. Will just spin and spin so why bother?
A TFSI engine is major work but can be done and you will have to part good money.
G60 is not worth it for that power, I wouldn't trust it lol
everything points to the 1.8 20v bam lump

A vr6 running low boost should be ample and the engine can handle 250-280 bhp

the Americans do (225 is quite common on there 8v's)....... then again the don't have corners or need brakes so can spend the many ££££ on the engine and box only
-
imo the power you are looking for is too much for a mk3 without a diff, and the money you want to spend will get you nowhere near the power you want unless you cut corners.
Stick a 150 or 180bhp 1.8t in it, give it a map and all the usual bolt on mods, and you will be more than happy with the results :afro:
-
I forgot to mention the US spec 8v is a very different engine to the euro (but have a look on VWVortex as there's several with 200+ bhp and only 8 v's)
or as said a 1.8t will give you the power cheaper (well a good 150bhp engine is £400 and you need to fit it!!)
-
You'll also find in America there are full on Turbo Kits for the 8v. I was looking at one when i had my 8v, but just wasn't worth it!

But as BoneyBradley was saying the American engine is very different to the Euro one, for a start its cross-flow rather than counterflow.
-
It's not that different, it's cross flow like the mk4 2.0 8v
It's sh!t and u will be lucky to see 160 BHP with a decent turbo

THANKS
