Hi Folks,
Got some fuchs 10-40 semi for a weekend change.
The sump gasket is leaking however. Checking ebay, there is a seller selling a sump gasket and baffel tray -
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sump-Gasket-Baffle-Tray-VW-Golf-Mk3-1-6-2ltr-GTI-Di-/170607899950?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27b905f52e#ht_1234wt_1037
Has anyone tried this one before? Don't know if this baffel tray is just a gimmick. I am guessing and good scrub down of the sump should be surfice.
Eurocparts are doing 2 different makes of gasket for around £11. However I am through in glasgow tomorrow near a GSF. I am not sure if GSF do better ones which are cheaper or more expensive?.
Any advice for tomorrow guys, as I want to grab one when I am out tomorrow.
Also just to check, the golf just hit 130k miles, Am I best to stay away from engine flushes?
Thanks again.

Yes avoid engine flush, for the gasket I would use a genuine one, saves doing a messy job twice.
-
Nice one, do you know if the GSF's one are any good?
-
Buy a new one from the dealers
-
As above for genuine. Got one a few months ago, about £16 iirc. Much less likely to weep again.
-
Use a tube of instant gasket :-P
-
I thought the dealers were supplying tubes of gasket sealant? or do they still do actual gaskets?
-
I got one ages ago from VW (£30?) and never used it, but proper rubber gasket with metal insides - quite rigid.

Just checked receipt, Sump Gasket was £22. It was the rocker gasket that was £16.

thanks for the replies.
Picked one up from gsf for £12 yesterday. They were doing cork ones for £6.
Time to change tomorrow.
