Hi; I have a 1.8 Gti (n/a) [125bhp] and im now looking to push some power/torque from the engine;
my aim is to get her remapped but before that I wish to make some changes to get as much gain as possible.
I been told I can;
upgrade to green-top injectors,
K&N air filter/ cold air induction kit,
Sport cat/ straight through exhaust,
FSE boost gauge(this is a maybe),
If fitting the first 3 mentioned in opinions would I see much gain not as in bhp but in acceleration?
then the fact i would get the remap would this be beneficial? thanks !!

Remap on a non turbo will be about as much use as a hand brake on a canoe
-
Alright mate, I'm not a expert but personally I wouldn't spend to much on tryin to
Improve the performance as without a turbo the gains won't be that great, best idea would be to tune the handling and maybe a panel filter to let it breath a bit better.
-
+1 on the above, If you want performance buy a 1.8t or drop in 1.8t in your current car
If you want the most out of your car I wouldnt expect great gains but if your happy with that then im sure a tuner will be able to improve many things on a N/A car, Your car may have flat spots through out the rev range I bet a tuner can improve this.
Its upto what you wanna do with it mate, Granted it may cost alot of money for very little gain but its your car and your money

most youde see from a remap is about 10 bhp, if your lucky. :D
personally next time you service it ide stick a panel filter in and drill out the air box so the air flows a little better.
if you want real performance proberbly the best thing you can do is new cams or a turbo, either will be expensive, ide work on handeling and styling, if you really want speed then your going to have to spend big £

3/4 bhp is closer to the mark.

get high comp pistons, ITB`s, cams, forged con-rods, crank ect then remap... should see some nice gains.. will cost a fortune though.. different, but not really worth it!

ok so that that out the window ha, just checked and found that to upgrade to a 1.8T would only be 100 extra on insurance! so 800 for a 19year old isn't to bad no?, however I put blood sweat and tears into her as had problems when brought her, (running fine now), and the heated leathers seats I cannot live without; so if I was to go with a Conversion to a 1.8T would I have to state the insurance as replacement engine other than standard or as standard as its still a golf gti engine? also ino its a lot of work for a conversion but how much would it cost for me to do as I can get a AUM with 50k for 600? would I need to change all parts such as brakes, chassis and ect...? thanks guys!!
-
Out of interest. who you insured with? Lowest i can get is 1300 and im 19 with a 1.8na
As fot things needing changing quite alot of things are the same. liks the breaks i belive so could possibly be just engine and gear box. however i could be wrong (most likely am :D )

im with elephant.co.uk! none my mates can believe it being so cheap!!, an that's what I was thinking I would think its only the front end side of things? and I'm planning on upgrading my exhaust system anyway, and I've got racing suspension?
:)

Whoever told you to fit a boost gauge is clearly a plank.
You have no boost to gauge.
Flog it and buy a 1.8T

N/A Tuning= £££££ big bucks from experience
*High lift cams
*Stroker rod kit
*High comp pistons
*ITB's
*Stand alone ecu
*Head modifications (port&polishing&gasflowing)
*A good exhaust system not your ebay junk!
But likes been said its crazy money for the equivalent power in a a turbo'd motor

Rubbish.
It'll smooth out the engine responce especially after any engine tweaks, can make a good difference, though not as massive as a turbo map.

Not sure what suspension you got but in what way is it 'racing suspension'?

do they actaully work or are they just a waste of money?
-
yeah i did mean the boost valve but as i thought its pointless mod, so ant1981 id see some change in accelration possibly? and the suspension i have is the Apex RDX i believe (yellow springs) came with her when purchased.
Also would a AUM conversion be seen as a non-original engine replacement? as its still a golf gti engine? (worth an ask) cheers! :)

Of course it would, both the DVLA and your insurance company need to know.

You'd see a smoother better responce. A remap isn't necesserily just to gain loads of BHP, which is what alot of people seem to think it is. It'll smooth flat spots/rough spots out especially after any modifications.

its me again!! landed in a little money so going to try put this into gear...
Finally landed some rs8 alloys with brand new tyres 280!!! bargain!! fitted some DRL's just awaiting a nice day to wire them in!, have got designs for the interior as in head liner and centre console/dashboard!
i've decided to go with subtle modifications to the engine for now such as cold air induction, and a sportex exhaust system with race tube. this is purely to give the car a better sound, any power gain will be bonus as out of my age group I probably have the nicest and even quickest car as it stands.
Plans for future are to turn 20/21 then get hold of a AUQ or even a AMK block and drop in depending on insurance quote :)!! (http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/400052_10151186770015158_602010157_22769694_2134090915_n.jpg)
