Hi Folks,
I am having a reoccuring problem with my gold. It seems to be drinking fuel like beer ....well according to my fuel gauge.
I can fill up a tenner (7.5L) and the needle sits just under a quarter of tank. however driving at 80mph for about 40 miles, its enarly at empty.
The strange thing is, I drove back in to work(80mph for 40 miles) with the needle sitting at 0 (i.e. where the gauge sits if the car is switched off) and had no problems. I have been told by other gol owners, that when the tank gets to that position then it should cough and engine cut out.
Its not like the guauge does not work, it just seems not be accurate.
Any advice would be appricated.
Thanks

Have you tried putting more than a tenner in? Bottom end of the gauge on mine is always a bit odd. The whole gauge isn't very linear, tank isn't an even shape.
-
Agreed.
Unless you fill up the tank completely and get some accurate consumption figures its pointless.
-
Mines the same if I have less that quater of a tank in then my fuel gauge goes down then back up then down. But chuck £20 in and it's fine.
-
I have a similar problem with mine i put £30 in not long back and it took it to about half a tank. I drove a few mile then it dropped all the way to nothing and gradually over the next week steadilly crept back up

The sender is a very poor design, they are never any good even if you fit a new one.
Mine was saying a 1/4 tank even when it ran out once.
-
mines quite accurate till quarter tank then its everywhere :L
-
Mine usually under reads. Its looked like I've been running on fumes a couple of times, then took it for a full tank, and only get in about 45 litres.

The new ones are much better!
But are a pig to do.
If anybody does have to change the sender only buy the new version from Main Dealer.
ECP/GSF ones are rubbish!

i have had very similar problem for ages but never had the balls to see if the petrol light come on or not, but seamed weird that the needle was reading empty but yet no light??
-
Petrol light? i dont think they have them.
-
No they dont have em unfortunately.
-
ah that might make sence then ha ha was not sure if the small petro; pump lit up or not if honest but never tried to run it low enough to find out

I think your car has an alcohol problem.
