Posting here as well as in Insurance section so can get views from bigger audience.
Basically my MK4 Golf GTI has about 7 modifications to notify insurance about ...
1) Engine remap (stage 1)
2) Bigger turbo (K04)
3) Front mounted intercooler
4) Carbonio CAI filter
5) 19" wheels
6) Uprated front brakes
7) Dump valve
I know several people are saying insurance is going up but is it really worth paying £800 insurance per yr on the above when a standard Golf MK4 GTI comes in at less than £300? I got quoted £10,250 by one company
My question is to get the insurance down should I remove mapping on the engine & dump valve - would the insurance drop considerably by removing these mods? Does anyone have any advice. Thanks.

Bet you could get a non modded car with similar power on the insurance for cheaper!

Forgot to mention I'm nearly 38 ..... not like I'm 20
What's annoying is an R32 insurance is £360 .... and a 1yr old RS Focus worth £20k+, insurance group 19 and over 300bhp comes in at £450 ...

Been driving 20yrs ... 15yr+ no claims, no points
I've been checking the other posts out & have a few companies to try in the morning so hopefully I can get something sorted without having to sell it because the insurance quotes so far have been ridiculous. One other thing that has now become apparent is if I do decide to sell car (insurance up in 2 weeks) but don't insure it, I should then SORN it .... but how does that work when someone wants to test drive a car before buying it - with no tax or insurance?
-
First things first, how many insurers (specialists) have you tried?
Also, what is your postcode?
The main loadable modifications are the turbo, remap, FMIC and the induction kit, in that order in terms of percentage loadings.

Give sky a ring, 20% forum discount plus they just insured me for £740 on a 1.8t mk3 with a ton of mods. It turned out to be cheaper than most well known insurers wanted for my car when it was standard!
