Well after 7 1/2 months I have finally been told my GTD is getting started on build week 46. Am I right in saying that's today? I hope it's been worth the wait :-)
How long should I expect to wait now on the car arriving?
The good thing is VW have given me a golf tdi till mine is ready :-) albeit a mighty 105hp puppy :-|
Cheers Chris

It tends to be in the lap of the gods chris. We had a build week of 41 and we picked ours up 2 weeks ago. Did You also get the free leather and phone prep mate?
-
This may help as a guide.
Work your way round it clockwise. It helps work out delivery time

Yes I sure did  I hope mine comes as soon as that. Seems an eternity since I ordered it. am I right in saying it gets the rear LEDs as well?
Chris
-
Thanks snoopy good guide but does it work real time :embarassed:
-
Its a few months old but it was very accurate then.

Yep
-
I waited 9 months and it was worth it
You will probably get some vouchers too, as you had to wait so long. I got a £40 VW voucher AND £350 of UK leisure vouchers. Useful for getting some stuff from Halfords to look after your new baby.

Hi Chris,
What spec and extras did you order? I placed my order for a GTD at the start of October and have been told to expect delivery February/March
Also, I see you're from Hamilton. Where did you order your car from? I'm using Verve up at Bogside as I've bought my previous 4 VWs from them
-

Yes mate ;-)
-
Andywell not very much ;-) got it all for free :-)
Check out at the bottom of the page. I hopefully have a good source for a rns510. Just need someone to fit and code it. I can see a nice drive down to see the DOC;-)

Hi Chris; Just curious as to how you managed to get a motor til yours is ready?
I placed order way back in May - they estimated 25 week del, but thats gone now and still they have no idea of even a build date!
I am p/exin a non VW car and we worked out approx mileage it would have done by the expected del date of new Golf. But now the mileage will get higher and higher as the Golf takes longer to arrive... Dealer quoted me a price (got it on the new vehicle quote sheet) they'd give me for it so so long as they stick to that I'll be OK I guess.
Perhaps I should ask them to take the other car now and give me a loan one til new one arrives?
Your comments greatly appreciated. Thanks Ash.
-
Yeah that's the thing to do get it in to the dealer and they should be able to request a support car till yours arrives. You don't have to worry about the price going down then or anything going wrong with it. The loan car will be provided by eurocar they take a small deposit and will deliver you a car with a full tank of fuel then when you drop it back off to the dealer when you pick the new one up providing you have not damaged it and topped the tank back up you get the deposit back. Simples
-
Thanks for the advice pal; I'll giv it a go.....

Anybody looking a new GTD in NI, my local dealer has had one sitting in the showroom for the last three or four weeks.
Black metallic, RCD510, Leather, Manual, Luxury Pack, Charleston Shadow 18", 3 door. £25630
-
Well said EVO :-) after 6 months VW provide a loan car thru eurocar like for like.
-
anyone getting any decent discount on these ? ive heard theres next to no discount on the GTD because of lack of interest in them ? :/
love them

It tends to work the other way ie you get next to no discount on the cars they can sell and a larger discount on the ones they can't mate
Fingers crossed the advice from members will help you resolve your remaining issues

I priced one up the other day on drivethedeal.com.
Base price was about 30k, and if I recall the discount was £2700-2800, so not quite 10%.
BTW they did say that VW were going to put the price up again sometime soon, but didn't say when.
-
I tried to get any kind of deal on a GTI from 3 dealers and was literally laughed at. In all 3 dealerships the service was terrible. On 1 test drive, the chap openly admitted he was new and had no idea whatsoever about the car! Good luck with the GTD, you wont be dissapointed.
-
Car went into build on week 46. Got a call today to say it was waiting on a ship from Germany :-) hopefully get it for Christmas.
Euro car have taken back the tdi and gave me a petrol poverty shot car :-( tho can't really complain it ain't costing me anything!!!!
-
That's the same situation as me Chris. Car was built last week (week 48) and is now awaiting shipment. I was up at the dealer (verve) yesterday sorting out the finance and plate transfer. They seem pretty confident I will get the car before Christmas.

-
It's amazing how times change, there has been a new GTD sitting in my local dealers for the last couple of months still unsold.

I ordered my GTI early in November (after lots of trouble with another dealer). It was assigned week 201204, but it's now lost this, and not sure why. So no idea when I'll have it. A bit gutted really.

The wife does have my surname so I guess it's got one of hers

I ordered a new Golf Match 2.0 140 with a load of extras 2 friday's ago and have yet to have a call from the deal regarding a build date, does it take a while to simply be given a build date ?

Not really, you should be given one provisionally after a few days (whenever it is accepted by the factory) assuming the dealer has allocation. I'd call & ask as it's probably not something they let people know straight away in case it changes

Judging by how long mine took don't expect delivery anytime soon  i had to wait over 4 months for delivery !
-
yeah but don't the roc's come from south africa or somewhere fun? Thats understandable the speed shipping takes, takes long nough to hop accross from Emden to Grimsby or Sheerness and that's just the width of a lake in some parts, how I wish they made better use of the chunnel! Anybody ever looked into how much FedEx might charge for a parcel the size of a Golf plus packaging?

That's not long. Ordered mine mid November 2010 and took delivery mid-July last year; a wait of exactly 8 months. My experience was pretty typical of waiting times in 2010 / first half of 2011. You guys are really lucky with your 'short' waiting times!

Mines nearly here. Hopefully will be delivered to the dealers this week if everything goes to plan. Ordered it just before Xmas.....

Mine was ordered on 19th Sept 2009 and I picked up 27th Jan 2010 after a 1 month delay which was phoned in Nov . This 8 months wait is a not worth having .

With regards to building the car, ive added in quite alot of extras, does this make the process much longer?

Dynaudio, fogs, tints, winter pack, bigger wheels with sports suspension, park assist & camera, tire pressure monitor..... think thats it lol its a Match 2.0 TDI 140bhp as the Match works out alot less expensive than a GT for more kit (minus leather interior). So it also has the RCD510, parking sensors, alarm, bluetooth, leather multifunction wheel & other leather bits and bods, rain sensor and auto lights etc etc
Oh, and in Candy White of course :)
-
i didn't rate the dynaudio at all when i first got the car but now i really like it. gets better with a bit of use and once bedded in is very good
but the amp under the passenger seat rattles like a b@stard.

Just read that, happy days, makes me actually feel glad that I ordered a 2.0 140 as almost everyone agrees that its the best all rounder, i work in an airport around 20 miles from home so i need something economical :) I was also having a nosey on VW's website today and i couldnt help notice that between the 1.4 TSI 122 and the 2.0 140, theres only something like 0.2 seconds difference in the 0-60 sprint :/ strange seeing as theres a whole 18bhp extra in the diesel. I take it its the weight of the diesel + the petrol having the extra 1500 revs, still glad i went for the diesel as it does alot more MPG :)

From day one I always wanted a golf and if I'm honest Ive always loved the R32s and I did have the opportunity to get one before going for the GTD...my mrs begged me to re think the R32 due to the fuel costs, thankfully I listened and went for new instead on 2nd hand, I've always bought new so I think it wud have been weird stepping into something used.
My previous cars have been 1st car pug106 then 2 swifts 56 & 58 plate and now the GTD. the 2 swift where really reliable and never let me down and as much as I liked them I always felt there was something missing...so this is pretty much how I've ended up in a GTD, but it must be said that if it wasn't for my grandads sad passing (alzheimer's) I wudnt of been able to afford it.
The cars I've had in the past have never had much poke so it's a joy to get in a car and to know if you need it then the power is there...
Sorry for the story!! LOL

LOL
Only seeing this now, internet crapped itself lol. I would also LOVE an R32 but i work in an airport and the petrol would actually ruin me, im hoping to get a cracking MPG as its 50mph the whole way from my house to the airport and never any traffic :) havnt heard from VW in 2 weeks, but i suppose no news is good news, as far as i know the car was built this week :) I was in VW getting my window fixed as it decided to drop right down while it was closed and not go back up again, the cars 3 months out of warranty but VW kindly jammed it up for a few days untill a regulator came in and fitted it free, theyr so nice..... lol
The guy i bought the new one off knew i was coming and was sitting in the coffee bar waiting on me lol said hes thinking mid april, MAYBE slightly earlier :) should maybe have it this time 2 weeks, really cannot wait :)
