Title: injector pump testing

is there any way to test the injection pump on an asv  non pd engine apart from taking it to vw as its not drivable.  its the one thats driven off the timing belt. the aa man said crack the injector unions off and turn it over if the fuel dribbles out its packed up whereas if it really squirts out its ok. is this corrrct?
