my renewal for my 8v before I declared and changed was £650, I thought that was expensive! Might be worth checking out the insurance section, you can get 20% off if you go with sky insurance I think you just need to quote your forum username

Shop around and you may get lucky, if not then maybe sell up and get something cheaper to insure and build some ncb.

May be also worth trying the specialist brokers

Try Aviva! - They aren't on comparison sights and they give you Online discount and a 10 weeks free at the moment, and their customer service is good in my experience.

I insured my 97' GTI 8v for just over £470 today. Even my BMW 118d M-Sport was only £650 with them.

I'm 22 with 5 years NCB and only 3 points though..

Thing is do you still get ncb with those policies with 10weeks free? My last 10month policy came with a years ncb.

had just heard that some of those didnt offer a years ncb?

It's a 12 month policy so you earn 1 years NCB if you don't claim, they just discount you 10 weeks on the price..

Also, if you add your Parents to it (providing they have been driving for years and years and don't have many points etc) your premium will drop even further (about £100 in my case)

Yeah i knew that trick :-P my mums named driver on my policy and dont even live with her haha
It went up 2/3 hundred when tried to add my dad thou... aparantly because hes a paramedic lol!!!
But just read that my job (mechanic) puts it up too because i can mod my own car???? That seems bs to me!! Well new job listing - tyre fitter

That's the other thing,

Aviva don't ask for your specific job title, they just ask "Are you any of these?" and if your not you just click "no" (or something like that)

Not sure if mechanic is on the list though tbh, worth a go.

PS. I don't work for them, honest. lol

try sky insurance (unless you live in a high risk area) i got quoted £622 with skys 20% discount. and then i asked about how much more would it cost if i did a engine transplant (2.8 vr6, corrado 2.9 vr6 & BAM 1.8T 2.0v) well i only have to pay:

vr6 2.8= £722
corrado vr6 2.9= £737
BAM/AMK 20v 1.8T= £767

in total take out £622. so il just pay £145 more for the 1.8T engine, i was actually chuffed & happy.
